I have heard quite a bit about this place and I would say that it is about on par with what one can expect from a corner taco shop. Not great food but certainly not bad either. Tacos are good sized but Burritos are small. My boss and I went there and we ordered two good sized tacos and a small burrito for about $10. Carne Asada was not overly flavorful but it certainly wasn't bad. This is a cash only place but they do have an ATM on site but I'm not a fan of paying the couple dollar fee that you have to do for ATMs. Would I go back? If I was pretty hungry, wanted some cheap food and there was nothing else close by in the same category to try then I would give another item on the menu a whirl.

Absolutely love this place! I almost make a point of it to go completely out of my way when I come home to California and drive the hour plus it takes to get there and indulge on some Pedros Tacos! I always order the Carne Asada Burrito which is completely filled with warm meaty goodness and a small amount of guac and salsa just to add flavor. And I then also order some of the rolled tacos (taquitos) and they are out of this world. Making me wish I was home right now to get some! Best Taco stand!

We've always loved Pedro's and been loyal customers at multiple locations. Their food is fresh, generously portioned, inexpensive, and yummy. However, recently, we went to order a combination plate and asked that the rolled taco toppings that come with the plate (guac, sour cream) sit to the side of the tacos instead of on top in our to-go box. Kind of makes sense since you're driving home to eat in a bit and don't want crunchy rolled tacos getting soggy under wet condiments. They told us they'd have to charge us to put them on the side. Thinking they misunderstood what we wanted, we clarified, we don't want separate little containers on the side--we just want you to put them in the box to the side of the tacos rather than on top--no extra containers. They still said they'd have to charge us to do this. Are you KIDDING me? We told them, thanks, but we'll take our business elsewhere. That's absurd customer service. I wonder if it was worth it to them to lose a number of future food orders over what, maybe the $.75 charge they wanted to levy to make to-go food convenient for customers to eat? Guess what? There are a lot of Mexican places--we're not going to shed a tear over going elsewhere where they don't charge customers for something that already comes with a meal. Classic small business mentality that sends people in droves to chain restaurants. Pedro's, have fun charging people for ridiculousness!

I think their go to taco hands down is the potato taco. A deliciously, crunchy hash brown stuffed inside a tiny taco packs the perfect punch to satisfy one's hunger. Dont get me wrong when i called it a tiny taco, it's a pretty big taco. This place is cash only, with a ATM they strategically place next to the ordering window.

Beat fish tacos I have ever had !!! I have been coming here for years after I finish up surfing and order usually the fish tacos. The California burrito is a must try as well !!! Reasonably priced and great Mexican food !!! Bring cash !

Love this place! I always make a pit stop here before going back home to the OC from SD. or going to SD from OC. Either way... Carne Asada Burritos = bomb Rolled Tacos = bomb, so much guacamole! Gotta have that hot sauce with it! delicious. the only downside is seating is only outside, so when its filled up, you just gotta wait till people eat and leave.

Tried the " new " California burrito this morning.. Booooooo. Two thumbs down , no meat, 90% guac and sour cream, and I think I counted 4 fries. And it must have been to early for the employes because they all sucked, very rude, didnt seem any of the employes where happy to be there.

Should've listened to the reviews. Ate here because I'm new to the area and my friends and I were starving after a day at the beach. Easy little Mexican spot but food was less than average. Got the fajita burrito and chicken had no taste, not seasoned at all. Full of juice which made the burrito soggy. Side of guac was not what you'd expect from an authentic Mexican place. Portions were a decent size. My boyfriend got the California burrito and said it was pretty good. Cash only.

I drove from Huntington Beach to San Clemente along PCH to experience and get wet at several spots then get some tasty Mexican food,. Not so much here! The waves were great at 4 separate stops but I was really hungry and this menu did nothing for me! Blah! I ordered the Carne asana burrito and a fish burrito; neither was worth getting excited over.

  • Stacy B.

Decided to stop here on our way to the beach. Prices were very reasonable, but I have had much better food elsewhere. Good spot if you need food, but I would look elsewhere for quality Mexican food.

Let me preface with: I LOVE POTATO TACOS. I have come here many times over the years driving up to LA, or SF, and Pedros is always a stop on the way up north. I always get the potato tacos as per suggestion of my best friend that I usually go with. The potato taco is a hash brown patty, cabbage, salsa fresca and a creamy sauce. I am vegan so I get it without the creamy sauce. The tacos are $3 each even though it usually says potato tacos .99? Confusing. The tacos themselves are good, nothing spectacular but its more nostalgia of all my road trips with my bff. The hot sauce it come with is in a packet. WTF salsa in a package? They don't even make their own salsa?!?!?! Again I repeat a local, family owned taco shop in southern california that doesnt make their own salsa. Something is not right here. Last time I went they gave us the usual hot sauce in a clear packet and Heinz brand hot sauce. WTF ketchup company makes hot sauce packets? EW. Skip the hot sauce packets and enjoy the tacos without it, it ruins the flavor.

Cheep, tasty food, what more can I say, seriously.

  • Shannon G.

Ive always gotten the shrimp tacos in the past. On my last trip I tried a bit of the fish and I can't wait to go back.. Stay away from the tamarindo it taste like sugar water not tart at all.

  • Francis R.

Terrible breakfast burritos. Overcooked eggs and their hot sauce is from a packet. The prices are good though.

  • Byron J.

Great food! Had the fish tacos and the California burrito. Definitely will be coming back

    (4)
  • Stanley H.

I've had a breakfast burrito and California Burrito. Definitely not the best I've had, but pretty tasty. Burritos are huge as well! Minus one star for not having ketchup when there's potatoes in the Burritos.

  • Tami R.

Very happy with the food and prices!

  • Lisa T.

Yummy authentic Mexican food in South OC. Prices are great and food tastes wonderful. Service was a bit rushed, but it is a order and go kind of place. Parking and the drive-thru can be a bit of a hassle though. Also, only outdoor seating area, which is fine, but it might be filled with young surfers with bare feet.

    (4)
  • Janie S.

Not worth the price, unless you are drunk and hungry! No restrooms, no were to wash your hands, that's why the homeless like it! Jack in the Box better

  • Uriel U.

Best carne asada burrito ever !!! They do need better salsa packets tho. But over all the food is great and presentable ad the staff is ok .

    (4)
  • Jen K.

Ok if you're starving but the reviews are accurate. Horribly rude service. The gal at the counter acted irritated when I asked for napkins and salsa. She actually chucked them at me. The salsa is disgusting packets of some unidentifiable sauce that tastes like vinegar. Oh and bring a scissor because you can't get them open. We tried to order chips and guac but they don't have chips. What!! A taco shop with no chips!?! Shrimp burrito was ok as was the California burrito but we just left and already have stomach cramps. BTW... NO bathrooms so walk across the street before you order. DONT ask either cuz you will get a very stern NO from the gal at the counter who probably gets that question from every customer and is annoyed.

    (2)
  • Peter T.

Worst food ever!!! Put 1 star only because they wouldn't let me put none. Was on a road trip and stumbled on this place. There was a long line so we tried it. Fish tacos were huge and disgusting - fish tasted frozen and bland. Pico was just gross tomatoes. Grilled chicken was no better. Inedible- Gave my food away. No flavor in taco sauce and the hot sauce came in packets. By far the worst tacos I've ever had !!!

    (1)
  • Scotty E.

4.5 stars!! This is a great little taco shop has some of the best fish tacos I have had in a while. The carne asada tacos were also really good!! My girlfriend got the bean and cheese burrito. For some reason places mess this up, but Pedros was delicious. If your hungry for some good tacos, definitely stop in here. Just know they don't have indoor seating or bathrooms, but they do have a drive thru!

  • Ray G.

I was recommended to try Pedro's fish tacos by a friend. It was good. The size of the taco was very big, but it wasn't exactly cheap either. I'd recommend it but I wouldn't go out of my way to get one of their tacos.

    (3)
  • Ali N.

This is no 5 star joint so when you go here don't be expecting the best stuff in the world but for what it is this place is awesome! I always come here for fish tacos whenever i am in the area, its cheap and good, can't go wrong with that!

  • Christina N.

This is an awesome spot to quickly satisfy a taco craving! I'm actually not a huge fan of fish tacos (unless they're served up by my Dad), so I was hesitant to order this famous fare of Pedro's. Fortunately, the fish tacos here are as killer as I was told they would be. Granted, just because you may indulge in these magical fish tacos, don't think you can easily avoid the "this is so insanely unhealthy" guilt trip of taco consumption just because its stuffed with fish, as opposed to chicken or carne asada. The fish is battered and there is a copious amount of sauce adorning it. Nevertheless, this meal really satisfied me, especially as I washed it down with an order of Horchata. Ughhh...So. Good. When my boyfriend and I ate lunch here, we also split an order of rolled tacos. Which are basically taquitos. Just lettin' you know, because I had no idea. I'm happy to say that my meal here silenced this raging Mexican food craving that had been quite an annoyance to me for some time. If you're in South Orange County, or if you're a South Orange County native, make it a point to visit! Just a note: These guys only take cash. And there might be a wait. But it's well worth it.

Great food, rude service at the cashier. If my wife didn't want this food I would have left premises

Eh. Am I missing a memo or something? Exhausted from my Trestles surf sesh and the sweaty walk back. My tummy wanted food, NOW. Of course, Pedro's! So this is my second time. First time unimpressed and wouldn't care to come back, but I didn't try the "world famous fish tacos" or potato ones then. This time, silly me, still didn't try the "world famous fish tacos", but my friend did. I ordered the carne asada burrito, and at first I couldn't tell which one was the burrito from the fish tacos in the wrapping, the fish tacos were almost the size of my burrito! Huge! But unfortunately I was having the wimpy burrito, and immediately regretted not getting the fish tacos. So, until then, I am not changing my review. I will give it to you that the although the burrito wasn't a FAT one, it did have a decent portion size of alot of carne asada, just shocked that tacos would be the size of the burrito. So tacos it is from now on...is that all that's good here?! Until next time, maybe...

I got a burrito and didn't love it. But someone gave me their FISH TACO and it was BEYOND great and affordable! So if you go there get what they are known for, their fish tacos. Affordable and YUMMY!

The only grub stop en route to SD. Shaun B. introduced me to the shack a couple years ago, and I've been a fan ever since. We were on our way to SD for the day and I specifically told Deana I. not to eat breakfast. Being a fan of tacos, I had to enrich her palate with Pedro's. 55 miles into our trip we took El Camino Real and made the stop. She ordered a number 4 with all rice (2 Carne Asada Tacos) and I ordered the Chicken Fajita Burrito. Both of our orders were stacked with fresh meat and veggies, hers had some fantastic guac. Also, the rice was just right- tasteful and not drenched in oil. We were happy road-trippers after that meal.

  • Deana I.

My boyfriend and I started our day trip to SD by stopping by here for an early lunch. It was a small place but there were already several people eating here. I'm guessing this is a local favorite. I got the 2 carne asada taco combo with rice, thinking it would be suffice. I was dead wrong... there were so much food that my boyfriend helped me finish my food. They weren't stingy with the meat; in fact, there were a lot of it piled on that I got a great meat-to-tortilla ratio on every bite. They also put guacamole and salsa on the tacos rather than cheese and lettuce. Also, the rice wasn't oily or greasy so it didn't feel heavy in my tummy. It's safe to say that I'm a fan and I'll be sure to drop by whenever I'm on my way to SD.

  • Mikki J.

The best fish tacos ever!!! Unfortunately on the day I went, someone hit a skunk at the intersection in front of Pedro's so there was a horrible skunk smell in the air as I ate my fish tacos outside. I couldn't take the smell anymore so I had to finish eating on the road in my car.

  • Lyle D.

Yuk. I had a fish burrito. Over fried frozen fish sticks with tons of mayo and a sprinkling of wilted cabbage and stagnant salsa fresca. Came with packets of processed hot sauce. I gave the cashier a visual berating.

    (1)
  • Natalie V.

Cute little taco stand in between LA and SD. Their fish tacos are decent, as well as the fried chicken taco. I've never had the potato burrito that most folks seem to love, but that might be worth trying next time. Mega points off for the packaged hot sauce they give you. But that's offset by the fun people watching and cool SoCal vibe.

  • M F.

Inconsistent food, none of it ever very good for the money. Almost everybody that works there has piss poor attitudes, especially the girls at the windows. Get the sticks out of your butts. Please put a Roberto's in San Clemente!

I've heard much about the California burrito, the cousin of carne asada fries. The burrito with fries inside, or here, a McD's sized hash brown. It sounded amazing as my cousin described it. So we go through the drive-thru and she CONFRIMS that we ordered the added potato. Then we check the receipt and CONFIRM that we indeed get charged for potato. I start eating it. First bite - no potato. No problem...it's probably in the middle. Halfway through - no potato. Ok, maybe it got smashed into the bottom half. 3/4ths through - dammit Pedro. There's no potato at all. Thanks for wasting one of the limited number meals I have in SoCal on a regular burrito. RAGE!

  • Marisa M.

New fav - bean, cheese and POTATO burrito. Darned good, and somehow seems to taste the best at this location. The best part? Using my credit card - not cash - to pay for it (finally!). Pedro's, you continue to rock my world...

    (4)
  • Audrey L.

Not sure I understand the hype my friends were raving about- ordered the fish tacos which were huge in portion but smothered in creamy mayo sauce and fried. It was a bit too much sauce and batter for me. I was trying to figure out what kind of fish was in there but it was difficult due to all the batter. Actually I think it's a fish stick inside. The overall taste was good but I was just a bit confused about what exactly was in my fish tacos. : /

This place is pretty decent! Went here with 3 of the clients at my work today...and I gotta admit, I liked it! Ordered the Carne Asada Burrito. It was by far the tastiest burrito I've tasted in awhile. Packed with Carne Asada and just pure awesome ness!! :) The burrito was $3.70...and totally worth it. This place doesn't provide seating...actually there really is no inside. It just has a drive through and if you want to park, you just order from a window and take your food home or go down to the beach!!! I heard that their bean and cheese burritos and tacos are pretty decent too. I'll have to go back to check it out again soon!!!

I love this place. Every time we work in San Clemente, we make a point of going to Pedro's. Fish Taco's are always amazing! Love you Pedro's.. thanks for always making me hungry when I talk about you lol

If you're looking for awesome Mexican food and a laid back atmosphere, look no further than Pedro's Tacos. Located just off the 5 Freeway in South San Clemente, Pedro's is the best spot around to grab a quick bite of some delicious Mexican food after a long day at the beach. They have a drive thru window as well as a walk-up window with outdoor patio seating. Pedro's is famous for their fish tacos, and I personally think that they're the best in the OC! They also have tasty carne asada burritos as well as a full menu of killer Mexican food! If you're in the area and looking for some quick and tasty Mexican food then get to Pedro's! I recommend grabbing your order to-go and heading down to World Famous T-Street Beach! A five minute drive from Pedro's, the bluff offers beach access, bench seating, and an amazing view. On a clear day you can see all the way north to Dana Point as well as south to Cotton's Point! Hope my review has been helpful, ENJOY!

I've been coming here for years as it's kind of a post surf sesh staple after catching a bunch of rides at Old Man's. Brought Christopher M., of Boston Yelp notoriety, here after our brutal dawn patrol session courtesy of a swell via Tahiti. It was his 1st day out in the soup and he caught on real quick that Mexican food is what cures a surfer of his hunger brought on by hours and hours of paddling ; ) CM ordered the carne asada taco plate that came with beans and rice and I ordered the carne asada burrito with sour cream. They served me this jalapeno hot sauce with it and I proceeded to douse each bite with this excellent concoction of spicyness that had me sweatin' hella gross like. I don't think I've once been disappointed by this place. Even though this place can have lines out to here, I've always received fast service, tastey nibbles, and a satisfyingly bloated ride home. But if anyone from Pedro's is reading this, Christopher wants to know who you dethroned as having the best tacos in 1986. That's all him, not me : )

    (5)
  • Jim M.

If you just want a fish taco this place is probably fine - they were decent size and tasted good but nothing special. Don't stray far from that on the menu though. We had a chicken quesadilla that was so gross that I didn't finish my half, and I was still pretty darn hungry. I'm not even sure you could call it chicken... - rubbery pink lumps pasted into greasy cheese and soggy onions. They also lost a few stars based on the lousy service, highish price, and cafeteria-quality taco sauce. And for some odd reason they were unable to give me a receipt. There were quite a few people out front (which is usually a good sign) so I figured it was a good "locals" kinda place. Guess I was wrong.

  • Christopher M.

After a morning of riding (or being abused by) the waves at San Onofre, nothing pairs better with that salty aftertaste of Pacific Ocean victory than a savory taco or two from Pedro's. Thank goodness I had my lovely host, Phoenix A, to show me the way! The carne asada was a wicked good, moist and juicy with just a little POP of spice. The taco comes with guacamole, as it should be, and the servings are generous to say the least - thank you for getting that one right, Perdo. And if the spice alone isn't enough for you, there's plenty of jalapeno hot sauce on hand. Judging by the way Phoenix doused everything in sight (including her breakfast cereal the next morning), I'm convinced there is an addictive narcotic somewhere in the list of ingredients. For a roadside taco stand, the rice and beans were a cheesy triumph. Pedro's claims to have the best tacos since 1986 - I do not think it's too much to ask who had the best tacos before 1986; do you? But regardless of the former champion, Pedro's continues to reign supreme!

  • Randy J.

I can see why some people hit this place pretty low now. Especially if they get what I got. I swung by some time in the last 2-3 weeks doing MACH-6 down the 5 FWY and got some pretty hideous cartilage in the chicken taco. WOOF! When they are on their game it is great "Surf-Mex" chow. It is very "SoCal" with locals and "Inland Surfers" who commute to the waves. Has a great taco shack/beach vibe and I previously rated them higher, but their quality of food is too incosistent for four stars. Do not avoid the place, but be ready to be pleasantly suprised or underwhelmed, because either could happen.

  • Rob W.

With a 4.5 star average @ 34 reviews I bookmarked this place for the next time I was in the Deep South of Orange County for lunch. What could be wrong with a funky little taco stand drive-thru called Pedro's Tacos? ALOT!! So I get a "World Famous" fish taco and a potato taco to go. As soon as I open the bag I knew something was wrong. There's like 40 packets of hot sauce for 2 tacos, like I just got Del Taco or something, no big. First taco up was the fish taco and honestly it tasted pretty good and was freaking steamin' hot. I was just more than a little surprised it was a processed fish stick, WTF? OK, it tasted good, the Baja sauce was tasty, get over it. Movin' on. When I opened up the "Potato" taco I almost blew a gasket. HEY, can I get a McMuffin with my McTaco pleez? WTF? WTF? yelp.com/biz_photos/m5Bs… Am I getting punked by some remote yelp crew? I don't get it. At almost $2.50 each can't I get some real ingredients? Muthafuckas!! C'mon. OH, how 'bout a drive-thru that every full sized truck that came through had to back-up and re-situate to get up to the window? Best thing on the menu? Pedro's Stickers for 25 cents and Bumper Stickers for 10 cents. If your a fan, I'm NOT.

    (1)
  • Summer B.

Oh Pedro... How did I live for 28 years without you? The fact that they only take cash is a little obnoxious, but the potato tacos are definitely worth a stop at the ATM.

    (4)
  • Monica H.

This is a walk-up window restaurant (they also have a drive thru) with outdoor seating. It is inexpensive and the tacos are pretty good. My favorite are the fish tacos (just as an fyi, the fish is fried, sort of like a fish stick, but better), followed by the carne asada. My least favorite was the chicken taco, it was hella messy!!! This place is very inexpensive and is a decent spot to drop by. FYI, they accept cash only!!

    (4)
  • Liz G.

The worst tacos I've ever had!! The wannabe fish tacos are super fried fish sticks in a tortilla. The fish sticks are so overly-fried that whatever fish was originally in there is now dried to a crisp! And the chicken tacos, unedible! Greasy, grossness. Never going back. If you're in the area and are hungry, try Mr. Pete's burgers instead.

    (1)
  • Ashley C.

Greasy. Cheap. And soooo goood. I mean, I have an Alerto's right around the corner but I often find myself fantasizing about the taquitos from Pedro's tacos... San Clemente isn't THAT far... :)

  • Cat B.

Haha, such a mix of reviews on this place. It's true, if you went out of your way to try this place, it's whatevs, but if you grew up surfing all day, and then getting picked up by your parents to stop off here, it's godforsaken heavenly and you have a place in your heart for it. Without our parents, we'd scrounge up enough change to get a gloriously oily, doughy, straight cheese quesadilla. For a splurge three decadently crunchy rolled tacos with a dollop of guacamole and a healthy sprinkling of cheese. Exactly what you need when your arms are wobbly, your nose dripping of salt water, and legs shivering as the fog rolls in. Good memories here.

    (3)
  • Corey V.

Best fish tacos on the planet!! Also love the quesadillas.

    (5)
  • Stephanie K.

Ewwwww, gross. I tried a steak breakfast burrito, and literally only took 3 bites before I threw it out. The eggs were crumbley- seriously, how do you even make eggs that crumble? The few pieces of steak were nothing more than fatty pieces. The "potato" was basically a fried hasbrown from McDonalds. There was absolutely no cheese, no seasoning- just nasty crumbley eggs, fatty steak and icky potatoes. They don't have salsa- instead passing off some hot sauce as salsa. This is handsdown the WORST breakfast burrito I've ever had in my entire life. I am so confused by the positive reviews, perhaps the non breakfast food is good? It doesn't matter, I'm never going back.

This rating is referring to the Fish Tacos! Get it and you won't regret it. It's the best fish tacos I've ever had. Accompany with a horchata of course. The parking is a little hard and I had to settle for some street parking. Friendly service and hope you don't mind sitting on picnic tables outside.

I ask for 2 fish tacos , it was hard to find the fish fillet with all that cabbage and pico de gallo , then i found it only tobe disappointed its like a artificial or weird looking fish , i mean you eat it cause your hungry , but far from 5 stars fish fillet taco , i also ask for taquitos and they were better , the shredded meat was better but the packaging is terrible, you have to lick the sour cream and guacamole off the foil,YUCK!!!

  • Lyndsay N.

Worst Mexican food I have ever had. Coming for San Diego taco shops are by far the best food. But when you ask for salsa and they give it to you in a packet like Taco Bell you know there is a problem.

    (1)
  • Crystal S.

I'll say it.... I'm not a big fan of mexican food. I know, I know, but I can honestly say this taco was incredible I got your standard carne asada taco with the works and a side of guac.... I inhaled it! My boyfriend was pretty impressed for the "hot dog stand" style of restaurant they had going. The place was really small. This place is totally worth stopping by for a cheap and really good bite to eat! It could even compete with las barcas one day! I give this place a solid 3 stars because its A-Ok... mmm Tacos :)

  • Tiffany L.

Perhaps I was not the most objective customer when I dined here...why ...because I was always tired, sun-drained, and STARVING lol! This was a must go stop my group of guy friends (back in the day) and I always made after a long surf day down in San Clemente. Sun worn and ravenous for food this was a welcome stop before the long trek back up to HB. Yes... its definitly a hole in the wall shack, but I felt safe enough being there with a group of guys. And I always had the same thing... the burrito with potatoes. It was good standard fare after a long day and def killed the hunger. Nothing mind blowing but descent food.....def a surfer food stop.

  • Joe T.

I know its an institution in San Clemente but not what I was expecting. The burritos were very small for the price, as compared to the typical San Diego Taco shop fare and when I asked for hot sauce they gave me some small packets I expect to get from Del Taco or Jack in the Box. Nothing to write home about back the scenery on a hot summer day can't be beat.

    (2)
  • Tiffany V.

Seriously, I dream about their food. I dig the burritos, taquitos and anything else with beans and tortillas! Where else can you get a kick ass burrito for under $3. I know they are famous for their fish tacos which are tasty, but I'll take a burrito any day of the week!! Party in your mouth for sure!!

We were driving down from Santa Barbara to San Diego and decided to stop in this area for lunch. We passed by Pedro's Tacos and saw a good amount of people sitting outside and in line at the drive through so thought it looked promising. My family orded two fish tacos, a carne asada taco, an order of rolled tacos, and a carne asada burrito. First off, I don't understand what is so special about these fish tacos. They were mediocre, at best, and nothing special at all. The rolled tacos barely had any meat in them. I felt like I was just eating fried corn tortilla with a bunch of guacamole and a tiny bit of meat. The carne asada taco was decent, but the burrito was much better. I regret not ordering the carne asada burrito for myself. It was much more worth the money and decently delicious. After eating the rolled tacos and fish taco, I was still hungry. I realized when eating that everyone around us had burritos besides one family which all had their fish tacos. It was also interesting how they kept calling out the full orders for people to pick up versus using a number system. It'd probably be much easier to use a number system. Word of advice: They charge for tap water. Long story short: Order their burritos. Their tacos are nothing special and you can find much better elsewhere for cheaper.

I stop here every time I visit San Clemente. Why? AWESOME carne asada tacos!!! I remember on one beach trip when I was in high school, we went through the drive-through, ate our tacos, and NEEDED more. We wound up circling around and got a few more tacos for every single person in our 2 car party. We lived pretty far and needed to get as much as we could from dear Pedro.

Parking is horrendous here!! Ordered 2 Fish tacos, quesadilla, Horchata, and California Burrito. I thought it was pretty pricey for simple mexican food. I live in La Puente, and we have much better and cheaper mexican food out here. Everything totaled to about $17. The quesadilla is not note-worthy, but it is the cheapest thing on the menu ($1.39 or so) and the horchata tasted alright, but the california burrito was meh. The fish taco was pretty good, and the fish inside was a rather large piece. Overall, it was okay but wouldn't really go out of my way to come back. There was also a lot of people when we went, so the waittime was about 20 mins for our order.

You gotta try their fish taco. Their fish taco is what it's all about! That's what put them on the map way back in 1986 in my opinion even though they also make a mean California burrito now. Location and Ambiance (Rating 2) There's two locations here in San Clemente. Both are convenient to get to. Both are extremely small and neither have indoor seating. The tables that do exist are rarely clean but nobody seems to care. It's all about grabbing a yummy taco! The fish taco (Rating 5) Battered cod, cabbage, salsa & dressing So the secret here? There is none! They just use a ton of fish, a balanced amount of cabbage and salsa and put a mayo based dressing on there that makes it SUPER YUMMY. There's no way this thing is good for you with the sauce, but your taste buds won't complain. It takes two of these to call it lunch in my opinion, otherwise it's just an appetizer! California Burrito (Rating 4) This thing still doesn't show up on their online menu, but take my word for it, they have it. Give it a try, espcially if you like guac. They do a great job on it and it's filling.

My 8 year old sister insisted we didn't go here, and I didn't listen. I got the beef taquitos. Crusty. Amount of meat as a string of spaghetti. In other news, my brother swears by the steak quesadilla.

I was not impressed. This place looks cool and seems to always have a line so I decided to try it out. For the prices, definitely not worth it. The burritos are small. The tacos are actually some what big BUT the tortilla is still very small which means it rips and leaves you with just the mean to eat with a fork. I do like that they had a military discount. Id rather pay those prices at a restaurant. Won't be returning.

Not bad, but definitely not great. We got a fish taco, carne asada taco and an order of rolled tacos. The fish taco was ok, but had SOOOO much sauce on it (and so little fish!) I couldn't really taste much of anything else. Plus they dont give you a lime...which is weird! My bf said the carne asada taco was really good. The rolled tacos were a total rip. Teeny tiny, pencil thin and barely any filling. They don't have fresh salaa...just packets of some generic nastyness. Overall it was just "meh" and definitely not worth the money. Plus they charged us for cups of water (and didn't tell us) which was annoying. I won't be back....

This place is disgusting. I came here on my way from l.a to San Diego and I greatly regret it. For starters they charge for everything! If you want to have something removed from your taco they charge for it. They also do not have plates but will charge for a container. As for the food; its gross. I had steak which was shredded and stringy. The sour cream is mayo or they mix it with mayo. Also disgusting. Do not go here unless you want to be sick. My niece ended up getting sick from her bean and cheese burrito.

This is one of my favorite places to stop and eat on a drive between LA and San Diego. It is right off the freeway (although there is no restroom here). The carne asada burrito is the best but the hidden gem that you would not suspect are the 3 rolled tacos. They pile on the cheese and guacamole which make the dish. I love their packets of hot sauce which they have recently switched brands. They also recently started accepting credit cards, which is amazing. These guys truly have been serving the "world's best tacos since 1986."

Never disappointed and the food is always top notch. The drive through speaker stinks but hey IDC it's some damn good food at an affordable price

Food is good but 1 star for bad delivery & service. Messed order up, food cold on delivery. Tiny burrito (taco size), and they said "that's the size they are tonight". Having told them, they had an opportunity to remedy it but had no solution. They need some lessons in customer service b/c that kind of thing leads to non-repeat customers!

  • Robin Z.

"World's Best Tacos Since 1984"? Um, no. But you'll get a nice-sized, inexpensive, hot meal that'll satisfy enough so that any stoked surfer* feeling overly-thankful for the post-surf grind might shout "Best tacos in the world!" But the surf wasn't THAT good today. We got our orders quick and hot and meh. Not impressed. I think my chicken fajita burrito even took me one step closer to vegetarian. We'll see. But I hope the surf improves a lot. At least my attitude will improve. *or any soon-to-be-deployed Marine

  • Gene P.

3 rolled tacos were rock hard. No lettuce no tomato. Served in foil so that sour cream and guacamole was smothered together. Also, how does a taco shop not make their own salsa? They have hieNz sauce.

  • Jennifer H.

First, the good: Excellent fish tacos, absolutely delicious carne asada tacos, fresh guacamole. The California burritos is great, too. Now for the bad: The chips come in a bag and are awful don't bother. The taquitos are tiny and tasteless. It was $30 for three of us with drinks. In summary: stick with the tacos and burritos, they are enormous and filling. If you are a medium size eater the #1 is plenty trust me. I will eat here again but order less food and avoid the chips.

  • Jessica S.

The best Mexican food in town. Cheap and yummy. Love the rolled tacos with guac and fish tacos. Also love the Horchata. You must come here if you're in SC - that's all there is to it.

  • Lauren F.

We went to the other location down the street (on Camino Real and Marquita) and they gave us a chicken combo burrito yesterday (instead of steak). This one won't make any substitutions. I recommend not coming to this one if you want any type of customer service because they cannot be bothered and don't care about their customers.

Can never go wrong with the Carne Asada burrito. Lost 1 star because the workers always seem miserable. The next smile I see out of one of them will be the 1st.

Misrepresentation of Mexican Food. I ordered a fish taco and it was super breaded not much fish. Then no limes. What kind of fish taco place is this? Then I ask for salsa I was thinking okay fresh salsa nope! They hand me a Heinz hot sauce packet wtf! Three dollar fish crapo not worth it. Then I thought to myself bean and cheese burrito how can this get messed up. Well very simple beans tasted terrible my recommendation head down south to San Diego or cross the border because this place blows.

    (1)
  • Cate A.

Close to the freeway, so it makes for a nice pit stop when going to/from LA/SD. As many others have pointed out, the salsa comes in packets, so it's not really an authentic spot. However, the fish tacos and California burritos that we tried were still pretty good and hit the spot. Would go back again.

  • Jade R.

I used to visit Pedro's all the time, but lately I haven't been in the area as much. We were driving home from SD and we were getting hungry on the way home so I knew we had to stop at Pedro's. If you visit Pedro's you gotta try the fish tacos. There's no way out of it! The fish always tastes fresh, they double wrap with corn tortillas, it's topped with thinly sliced cabbage, pico de gallo, and a yummy white sauce. Another delicious menu item is the cheese quesadilla! It sounds so silly to get something so simple, but trust me, it's one of the best quesadillas you'll have. The serve it on an over sized flour tortilla with A LOT of delicious cheddar cheese. It's so melty and perfectly cooked when you eat it. The food is always pipping hot when you order, so you know it's fresh! The best part of this place is that there's the drive-thru. You don't even need to get out of your car, but it doesn't taste like fast food!

    (5)
  • Christa C.

Disappointing! Carne Asada burrito tasted terrible, and the "fried chicken" taco had a huge glob of mayonnaise on it! Chips and salsa not good either, and no restrooms!! We tasted our food and threw it all away! Will not return!

Thought the reviews were decent, so wet might as well try it out. Over salted meat in burrito, hardly any meat in rolled tacos, and fish taco was big, but too much batter, cabbage, and sauce. Really gross, could barely eat any of it, and I was so hungry.

Best Fish taco. Yes we cruised down PCH starting in newport till it ended for a while in San Clemente/ Dana Point area. Spontaneous Road trip Then realized how close to that taco place we loved when we were in San Onofre camping. We quickly got the google maps out. We pulled up on the first San Pedro's but it wasn't the one we had tried. Not willing to risk anything slightly different that would alter our memory of that great fish Taco we went to the other location further down. In the reviews they were raving about there California Burrito so I had to. It was worth it. My wife said it was better then the place we just went to last night. I would have to agree. Best California burrito / burrito period by far. Not huge but were not eating for bulk we understand quality and will not whine if it is regular size. Upon setting the Google Map destination for the honey comb hideout we realized we had traveled over 40 miles away from home. I would have to say it was worth it. When I came home I read the reviews and saw only one real whiner who stated that the prices were too high. Everything can't cost the price of a cup of noodle. It sounded like a lot of name dropping though. Fish Taco is 2.99 and burrito was 6.96. I don't see the high price. Even there additional ingredients were reasonably priced. Quality over quantity attitude though. Put it this way I am willing and plan to travel 80 miles round trip in the future to Pedro's Tacos. Crazy right. But definitely worth it. Doesn't it feel good to yelp about good things and positive experiences instead of having a profile that just whines. Yes it Does.

I love that they have a drive-thru, and that they are really fast! Both times I've been here it has taken less than 5 minutes to order and get our food to go. Yesterday we had a quesadilla, a California Burrito (carne asada, sour cream, guac, salsa, cheese, and potato), and a Breakfast Burrito (steak, egg, beans, cheese). All 3 were delicious. They have great prices! Only $1.29 for a quesadilla. But they only take cash...

Fish Taco, battered frozen fish to much cream sauce it was one big hand full of mushiness, not vary impressed. Taquitos, hard as a rock very little beef inside and dripping with oil...guacamole had no flavor . It was way to greasy.. They didn't even get our order right. We had ordered a potato taco and we ended up with another mushy fish taco

Use cash!!! An employee there has been skimming cards for almost a year. My card was copied, duplicated, and fraudulently transacted upon within 1 week of eating here. My credit union has Pedro's on a watch alert due to so many compromised cards. It was a grown male employee who took my card last weekend. So disappointed - good food. No integrity.

Pedro's is a great place for a quick taco fix when between OC and San Diego. I'd time my trips to stop here if I lived in the area. Pedro's is located in an unpretentious building off of Camino Real. Only seating I observed was picnic tables outside. Some in shade some in sun. Service was quick and fantastic. Not sure if it is Pedro working the counter but is sure wasn't a punk ass kid acting like I was inconveniencing him. No hassle when I asked if credit cards ok. I went with the Fish and Carne Asada Tacos. I've finished the fish and already want another. I expect the Carne will be equally good. If you're looking for something that isn't chain, stop at Pedro's. Independents like this need our hunger and support. Thanks Pedro! You rock.

Randomly stopped in San Clemente and saw this taco shop on the way to our motel and im so glad we came back to come eat at this place! For $3 a taco, it's so worth the price. Very decently sized, filling, and delicious :) their fish tacos are the best I've ever had, and I haven't even eaten my carne asada taco yet because I had to stop and write this review. Definitely want to come back!

My husband and I were starving so we stopped by this place to get some food. The drive-thru was convenient and the food was surprisingly good. I will say that the menu was very overwhelming (which is both good and bad). Prices were reasonable. If I lived closer I would come back here. :)

  • Liz B.

If your looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not the place for you. That being said the food was ok. I expected more based one previous reviews and the line at the drive thru. I had the shrimp burrito which consisted of shrimp , cabbage and sauce. Flavor was good but just too much cabbage imo. My husband ordered the California asada burritto, his only complaint was it was cold.

  • Drew R.

I heard this was a somewhat popular spot, but not quite sure why...Perhaps there aren't many options available in town, however I wouldn't know since it was my first time in town. Anyhow, the food was "okay." The salsa? Comes in packets, the same exact type/brand you get at Carl's Jr.... Seriously?! First time I have ever gotten salsa packets at a place that looked like a taco shop. The only plus was the food wasn't bad. I would eat there again if I had no other option, but I would probably try to avoid it.

When I go camping I love going here and eating . I'm from HB so it's a treat to go to San Clemente and eat Pedro's . Always getting extra food and throwing a burrito or queso on the grill

Mediocre everything. Nothing compared to any of the taco shops in the San Diego area. Even Rubio's has better fish tacos (and cheaper). Fish tasted quite fishy (not fresh). Salsa, strangely, came in packets. Everything was soggyish. Not "world's best" in any sense. Why do people go here? Do they not have any other choices in this town?

    (2)
  • Mike J.

Hands down the worst American trying to imitate Mexican EVER! Sad! They charged .85 extra for salsa? No Mexican would ever do that!!!! Sucked sucked sucked!!!!

What can I say about Pedro's Tacos that has not been said before? Well let me see if I can come up with something. Pedro's is an absolute staple to surfing in San Clemente and the local surfers who have been grubbing on a feast of an after surf session meal for years. I can only imagine the surfers and the legends of surfing that have paid a visit to this Pedro's. The reason I say 'this' location because I know of another location further down El Camino Real, I have only been to 'this' location. As you pull up to Pedro's Tacos who will see the sign out front which indicates that Pedro's was awarded the World's Best Taco in 1986. I am not sure who was on this panel but I am have to say they got it right because the Tacos & Burritos here are simply amazing. As you pull into the parking lot or drive-thru line you will observe car after car here probably with a surfboard either strapped to the roof or hanging out of the bed of a truck. You might even see some locals with the beach cruiser & side saddle get up=) I paddled out at T-Street ashy air (San Diego Wild Fire's) and still managed to put in a 5+ hour surf session. When I got out of the water I knew exactly where I was going. I loaded up my board and I was off to Pedro's. I did however on my way to Pedro's stop at Starbucks for a drink to bring with. I am not sure if Pedro's offers anything else other than soda but I was not chancing it. I arrived and went with my 'go to' order of 3 soft carne asada which come with a generous portion of guacamole & pico de gallo. I should mention 'this' Pedro's is only a walk-up or drive-up window service. You have the option of eating in your car, taking it to go or dining in the outdoor covered patio section just adjacent to the walk-up window, I chose option 'C.' My food was just as good as I remember the last time I paid Pedro's a visit strangely enough after the same set of circumstances of long paddle out session and grub-fest following. The hot sauce here comes in packets kind of like Taco Bell, do yourself right and get both the mild and hot and go crazy style with a dab of both on each taco you will not be disappointed. For the unprepared ATM on site!!!! If you are a surfer and reading this and happen to be in San Clemente for the first time 3 words for you 'Vote for Pedro.'

  • Chase G.

I would love to rate them on their food... however I didn't get any! Instead, I sat in the drive through as the last car in their line at 9:40 (when they close at 10) and watched the people in front of me all order. When I pulled up to the window at roughly 9:50 I waited a few minutes for someone to greet me. After a few moments, I was politely greeted by someone yelling "We're Closed!" at me. When I apologized for my confusion, and asked if they close at 10pm I received no response and I pulled out to the side to see all of the people sitting at tables eating, and the other cars still receiving food. I have heard nothing but hype about this place, but that service was just upsetting. If it would have been explained that they where backed up and had to end service a little early that night, I would have completely understood and returned another day.

The food portions are getting smaller and they are super stingy on hot sauce even if you spend over $20 they will actually charge you if you want more then 5 packs

What's up with package hot sauce! Rolled tacos no taste!

    (1)
  • Laila N.

I only tried the Shrimp Tacos, but they were delicious. For 2.99, that taco was stuffed! Gotta put both hot sauces on it, if you like some heat that is. Big chunks of shrimp, so you can actually tell theres shrimp under the salsa, cabbage, and dressing. They dont take cash, but they do have an ATM right next to the window. Service was fast, but then again there was only one other group at the time I was there. Seems like it would be an awesome spot to go to after hitting up the beach. I cant wait until Im in the area again to sample the rest of the menu!

My husband's burrito was outstanding, but my rolled tacos were overdone--fried too long so they were hard. The guac was GREAT. And my kids' cheese quesadillas were done fine. We ended up eating there (picnic tables outside) since out hotel was down the street. This obviously is not meant to be classy, five star environment, but the smell of pee was undeniable. I mean, would it hurt to hose down the patio now and then? I am from AZ, so I am spoiled with great Mexican food if I want it. This place is just okay, but the customer service and smell of piss is NOT ok.

This place was my favorite burrito place. Just recently I ordered a carne asada burrito with potatoes, the usual burrito that I always get. This time they added some sour cream at the bottom of my burrito, after eating the burrito I admittedly felt sick. After consuming the burrito, my stomach started to turn and I started to belch the sour cream. Once I got home I headed straight to the bathroom to throw up. That's when I knew I got food poisoning from the burrito. The rest of the day I felt like crap, I had the chills and good not eat anything. That was yesterday, my stomach is still not the same. It's sad, this place was my spot for a good burrito, but I don't think I will ever go back to Pedro's Tacos.

Potato tacos. Uh huh. The best ones ever. Cabbage slaw on top is great. One of the only places I HAVE TO GO TO when in San Clemente. I cannot get tired of these tacos. I buy a few and eat now and save others for later. Taste great cold.

No pork?! No shredded chicken? I mistakenly ordered the veggie burrito. Not a good idea. The rice was horrible and the "cabbage" was coleslaw. What?! Coleslaw on my veggie burrito? No. I ate a few bites and tossed it. My friend ordered a California burrito and did the same....a few bites and in the trash. Waste of $15. We will not be going back.

This is the famous Pedro's Tacos. I believe this place become famous because it was the only place available for an extended period of time in the Orange County, Inland Empire area. When I hear people say they come home to eat here I weep for their taste buds and say a prayer for their intestines. I recently ate here for lunch, as the cafeteria at my work was shut down for the day. I ordered a Horchata and a chicken quesadilla. The cost of the meal was clearly advertised and not excessively high for the area. The food was greasy, an indicator of using cheap cheese. The chicken was average quality but the vegetables that went along with it were either old or extremely overcooked. The green peppers looked like old lettuce, and the onions tasted and look like pasta noodles. I was very disappointed with my meal. I will not be returning to this location, or this franchise until I hear of some sort of groundbreaking menu or ingredient change.

Like just about every other Mexican place I've tried in San Clemente, this place was bland, tasteless, and full of chewy, gross meat. When we first moved here, someone mentioned Pedro's as a nearby option for Mexican. We got the rolled tacos which were edible, but no better than those frozen taquitos that come like 40 for $5 at the grocery store. We typically give everywhere a second try in case the item we ordered just isn't the best, so another day when we were starving and passed Pedro's, we stopped there again. Huge mistake. Our chicken burritos were DISGUSTING. The meat was not edible. It tasted processed, chewy, and like it had been microwaved too long. Yuck. We won't go back, nor we will ever again let a swarm of customers at a restaurant in San Clemente trick us into believing there is decent food to be had.

I'd like to say that I've ordered and loved everything on the menu, but I just simply cannot come here without ordering the fish tacos. They're the best I have ever had. The staff is aways friendly. Service is quick. And the location and look feels very San Clemente. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area. Best after a day at the beach.

I ordered a California burrito here and it was the worst california burrittos I have ever had. First of all the "carne asada" was not grilled, I believe it was boiled. My burritto was swiimg in sour cream and salsa fresca, there were about two tablespoons of beef and a teaspoon of potatoes in it. Once I finished drinking my burrito, I went back to get a refill of soda and they said it was $.75. The lady at the counter was also rude. My dining experience was so horrible here, that it caused me to create a yelp account just to save other people from disappointment........ Oh, and they're packets of hot sauce tastes like they stole the recipe from Taco Bell.

Who doesn't love eating out a good fish taco? Especially when it ends with sauce all over your face. The fish tacos at Pedro's are pretty good as well. Been eating here since my wee grom days. Said tacos are filled with a large crispy fried fillet, cabbage and a white sauce. Order 2 of these ($1.89 each), a gooey cheese quesadilla ($.99) and a horchata ($1.29) to call it good game.

  • JJ W.

It's a place the LAPD would lunch at. Having just moved to the OC, I was worried we wouldn't be able to get our fast, cheap, Mexican food fix anywhere except some big franchise restaurant. Then some family friends who are San Clemente locals introduced to this holy shrine. We trek over from the perfectly planned development town of Irvine about once a week for our fix. If you want a delicious, thick carne asada burrito wrapped in that thin aluminum foil, all packed with flavor, with their very yummy salsa - then you need to get your butt over here.

I normally don't do bad rates but I had to say something about this place. I recently moved to San Clemente from San Diego and have been searching for a good Mexican shop out here. I been hearing about this famous Pedros Tacos that everyyyyone here seems to love. Well, I went and ordered rolled tacos and one of their famous fish tacos...Oh my...where do I start. First off, the rolled tacos came wrapped up in foil (no plate). When I opened it, it looked like someone shit in my rolled tacos. Its like they ran out of those mexican shop plates and were like "fuck it" and just put the rolled tacos on some foil and slapped a bunch of guacamole and cheese wrapped it up leaving a mess. It was disgusting. So then I opened the fish taco which was just as bad. this fish was so fried I could taste the grease as I chewed my way through this fish. I was so mad, how can a place like this still be opened and people love it soo much??? And whats up with the packaged hot sauce??? Seriously, the WORST mexican shop I been too. You want some REAL mexican food, drive your ass down to San Diego, I promise you, you wont be disappointed. Even Chronic Tacos did a better job, and this is a food chain joint! Pedros Crappy Tacos suck. Don't go there. You will only be wasting your money. p.s. El Maguey in San Juan Capistrano is legit. But pricey.

  • Robert C.

Pedro's is a post surf session staple in San Clemente. Their rolled tacos with guac are as good as it gets, and their fish tacos (fired) are excellent, even though I personally prefer mine grilled. Crazy busy drive through gets nuts on weekends. You can feed the whole family of 5 for less than $20.

    (4)
  • Alison W.

I have to do it. I know it's probably cheap quality food and so bad for you, but it SO good. I don't get anything but the shrimp tacos (although I tend to nibble on my boyfriends fish tacos and quesadillas) So good. They haven't caught on entirely to quality control yet, sometimes you get it without all the fixings if you don't ask, or hardly any sauce. But that sauce? So delicious. And for the price you really have nothing to complain about. Buy some tacos and take 'em down to T-Street. Then you've got the full package: good food, cheap prices, great atmosphere. And PS although I've never had it, I hear their breakfast burrito is a winner.

This is the place to be! grab a quick carne asada buritto and sit on bench by the beach.

This is not what Mexican food should taste like. The meat was such bad quality and the taste was just gross. I really was not impressed! I can't believe people eat here! Really I'd rather eat Taco Bell mystery meat at this point!

OooOooOhhh baby... if the point of the review is to entice or drive people away from a place, then most san clemente high school kids dont apply because they're served Pedro's in school. Been eating Pedros for what seems like forever. Even after i moved from SC in 2000, i still make treks back for some Pedros If you want a well constructed burrito, like the picture of the art of burrito making, come here. This was the icon of my childhood and youth growing up in San Clemente. Is it truly the best burrito ever? i hope not because that means i have nothing to look forward to for the rest of my life....what i mean to say is, its great but the "best" part can be out for further discussion. Its still a damn good burrito. Bean and cheese is the standard. 3 ingredients, bean, cheese and tortilla wrapped masterfully and served in aluminum. It tastes good, like homemade....homemade if i were mexican. it sounds too simple but this is a great example of how less, truly is more. Ive liked the bean and potato burrito. To outsiders, it sounds exotic&odd, but its literally bean and cheese burrito stuffed with tater tots. yummmm. As you can might tell, its great stoner food.....i, uh, would suppose (if my moms not on yelp). Thats the beauty of Pedro's, its so simple and cheap that there's no room for sophistication. Thats right, NO chips! or salsa! or "tartar sauce"! this is a grab n' go operation but with tastier food! deal with it, yuppie! But let's continue on... The fish tacos are my favorite fish tacos out there. I find there's to be better because they taste handmade, not manufactured. The carne asada is also good, the meat's not dry nor dribbling its juicy down your arms. I had my first "Jamaica" drink here and i order it everytime im in a mexican restaurant because Pedro's got me hooked. Think "feral cranberry juice" .....ok, i mean "cranberry has a bastard child with ice tea" that bastard drink is delicious. I do NOT recommend those silly quesadillas. They're greasy. Very, very greasy. Dont even think about the veggie or chicken options either. They're dense, they'll unnecessarily clog your arteries, and even the bell peppers and onions inside of them are dripping with cheese jizz...gross. Overall, you should try Pedro's and eat what all the cool San Clemente kids are and have been eating for generations.

My new gf lives in SC and swears by this place so I drove the 30 miles to experience it. The one on SOUTH El Camino is 'supposed' to be the best (per the locals) but I wasn't impressed at all. A decent carne asda burrito but NOTHING to write home about. What Mexican place doesn't have salsa? ...packs of hot sause instead?? If you're a 'surfer dude' or 'surfer family' in this area then this place holds memories for you, it has that 'vibe', but it's NOT because of the food. It's average food at good prices. I am going to try the other one (North on El Camino) to see if it's any better. I don't get how anyone can rate this place as a 5. And for the chick that says she orders 13 tacos at a time, and wants to know what that says about her ?? .....it says you're a fat bitch. honey! Even if it was the best taco in the world what kind of woman are you, ordering 13 of anything?

    (2)
  • Ashley L.

Fish tacos were delicious! The grilled chicken taco wasn't impressive.

    (3)
  • Michelle E.

It is all about the fish burrito and tacos here. Super affordable. A must if you are in the area.

    (5)
  • Jeremiah S.

This place kinda bummed me out. It's not that the food tasted bad, but they use pre-made hot sauce in packets and the fish in the fish tacos is of the frozen variety. I prefer my Mexican food freshly made. Plenty of cheap stands do that. If I want hot sauce out of a packet and frozen foods I'll go to Taco Bell.

    (2)
  • Meghan M.

The carne asada burrito are amazing, the best pedros is this one too! The other Pedros salsa is too chunky in Oceanside. But this one is awesome. My friends all ask me to bring them back a burrito.

    (5)
  • Frank H.

Terrible... the food has no flavor at all. I had the fish taco but everything everybody ordered was bad. The taco sauce was from heinz--I mean...c'mon. No place to sit....it goes on. Honestly, this is the worst "mexican" food I ever had.

BEST fish tacos in Southern CA! Come all the way from Seattle for these and they're worth it - and quite a bargain, too!

    (5)
  • Sera P.

cheap, fast and tasty. vegetarians beware there is lard in the beans like most traditional mexican beans but the potato tacos and horchata are yummy. plus this one has tables outside.. the one down the street has no seating

NOT GOOD - Somebody wrote about the fish stick taco's at the other Pedro's around the corner and I'm sorry to say that I didn't listen. We tried this out based on these other scores and I don't see what the fuss is all about at all - unless you like a Mrs. Paul's fried fish stick in a corn tortilla. The sauce and the cabbage made it better, but come on - how hard would it be to get some real fish, batter it, deep fry it and serve it fresh? The fried chicken taco was the same - just insert a chicken McNugget and voila - yuk! To be fair, we tried the regular chicken taco - but one bite and couldn't eat anymore of it. Lastly, we tried the potato taco too and this was nothing more than a McDonald hashbrown deep fried and stuck in a taco. Unless you are 16, buzzed out of your mind or never had a decent meal in your life - I don't see the point. As Simon Cowell would say - "Sorry."

Pedro's Tacos are really good after the beach, or just for lunch. I haven't eaten much from them, but i enjoy every bite of my hot burrito, and every sip of my icy- cold coke. my friends like the fish tacos alot too.

Pedro's Rocks!!! No surf trip to Trestles or Oceanside is complete for my husband without a stop at Pedro's on the way home, so I highly encourage him to surf those spots as often as he likes and bring me home some grub! We LOVE their food and my husband is addicted to their hot sauce. He loves those little plastic packets. The carne asada burritos are definitely amazing, as others have stated, but everything there is awesome. I especially love the breakfast burritos. Yummy!!! You can't go wrong going to Pedro's.

    (5)
  • Robert B.

The Rep for Pedro's is extremely high locally. I think this is a vestige of everyone's memory from when they were kids and grabbed a burrito or taco before or after surfing. The food is very average. Best you can say is that you get a good value for your money. The meat though is poor quality. If I wanted to get great take out Mexican, Los Golandrios is like a 10 versus a 6 or at best 7 for Pedro's. It kills me to write this review and deflate the rep.

    (2)
  • Part G.

Good potato tacos/burritos. Decent fish. Soso on the other stuff. Pricey for what you get, used to be more affordable. About $3 for a fish taco. Salsa is packets of heinz??? Cool spot to stop at if you're coming from surfing trestles or sano or if you want a feel of San Clemente surf culture. Look elsewhere for great Mexican food.

Disclaimer: Growing up in San Clemente, stopping by Pedro's on the regular to grab lunch before heading to the beach, I have to admit I have a nostalgic connection to this place and, as such, will now write a heavily biased review... I've never met an item on the menu I didn't like. For the longest time my go-to meal was: 2 bean/cheese/potato burritos with pink lemonade and mild Huntz sauce (which is like crack-sauce). Sometimes I opted to substitute one of the burritos for the rolled tacos. Every now and then I'd treat myself by getting extra potato in the burrito so that those delicious tater-tot-like treats were in every bite. Mmm...I'm salivating just thinking about it. I want to go there. Now, due to some inconvenient allergies, my meal of choice consists of a combination of rolled tacos, carne asada tacos, and grilled shrimp tacos. All of which are so delicious. The rolled tacos are pretty small and, to be honest, don't have very much meat inside (they're pretty much fried corn tortilla with a sliver of meat) but they are just the right amount of crispy and come with guac and cheese. The carne asada is really good and tender and I don't think I've ever had gristle or fat. The tacos are bursting and overflowing with meaty goodness; they definitely do not skimp on the good stuff. BTW, the people who review this place poorly are snobs ("myes, myes") and belong at whatever high priced, high class yuppy faux Mexican place they came from. If you're in the area, you're hungry, and in the mood for Mexican, go here. Thank you Pedro's for supplying me, my family and friends with incalculable meals and happy memories!

    (5)
  • Summer C.

I love Pedro's. I ALWAYS get a bean and cheese burrito. It may be plain and basic, but it is my favorite burrito of all time plus it is cheap! It's a win-win. I'm obsessed with their hot sauce. I seriously wish I could buy it by the pound. I always ask for extra packets so I can take it home and use on other things haha. Pedro's has been around for a while - a locals favorite!

    (5)
  • Jef O.

4 stars for the 4 fish tacos I had the first time I was 4tunate enough to eat Pedro's! 5 stars if they added more white sauce and if they made their own salsa. Still the best fish tacos in the neighborhood!

    (4)
  • Genevieve A.

Made a pit stop here for the first time on the way up to Anaheim. I ordered the carne asada burrito. The tortilla tasted undercooked, the burrito as a whole didn't give me the desire to return. There's nothing that stood out from this place, or if this should fall under any other of the worthy typical SoCal taco shops BUT if you do go, keep in mind they give you packaged salsa. If you want cafeteria quality burritos, this is the place for you.

    (2)
  • Steven S.

Hands down the worst California burrito ever. Menu said it comes with carne asada but it was shredded beef. They do not have any fresh salsa but instead use packets of paste like salsa. Me and my other 2 co-workers who were with me threw our food in the trash after 2 to 3 bites. We went down the street to Adolfos and had more authentic great tasting Mexican food.

    (1)
  • Yen L.

Perfect place for a quick post beach meal! The carne asada burrito with potatoes is a must. Add some hot sauce and wash it down with sweet refreshing horchata! The food here is best enjoyed on site at the picnic tables. The drive thru lines are always busy.

    (4)
  • Kristina S.

Warning: they do not wrap / package their items well even though they use foil as a second layer. I made a mistake of putting the brown paper bag with my goods on my passenger seat. I was left with a giant oil spot even though I only drove 5 minutes before eating my meal by the ocean. The fish taco I would say was alright. I think even rubios provides better ones. Also it fell apart. A fork would definitely have been needed. The potato taco was better but also lacking somewhat in flavor. The sauce packets were definitely needed. The hot taco sauce by Heinz is meh. The jalapeño hot sauce is much better. But try both and see what you like. The carne asada burrito I had high hopes for. It was smaller than I thought but at first bite it was delicious. But then I realized by burrito was only meat and a doughy tortilla. It had the smallest bit of salsa - in the middle that lasted about one bite and no guacamole. Let me repeat - no guacamole!!

  • Julie H.

This place is awful. The food is not real Mexican food. When you don't sell chips to go with your food not a good sign. Not from the area but had good rating. Never coming back. Service was ok. M

    (1)
  • Melissa C.

1 star is too high of a rating The absolute worse burrito I've ever had. The meat was straight from a can (smart and final) their salsa is heinz pre packaged and disgusting. The service was incredibly rude, the only thing that was decent was the Jamaica water. It was incredibly over priced. $38 for two burritos, 1 fish taco, and 2 drinks. Honestly I should have just went to 711 next door and gotten a frozen burrito because that would've been better. I would not recommend this to anyone. Waste of time and money!

  • Oscar S.

Stopped here prior to hitting the beach, buddy raved about this place and how good it was. My order was 4 tacos, 2 asada 2 fish. Carne asada was AWFUL, not quite sure how to explain the taste but truthfully one of the worst I've had. Fish tacos o those fish tacos, you wrap a FISH STICK in a tortilla and call it a fish taco.. And you charge me 2.99 SMH. people you want to know what a fish taco should taste like visit ensenada, mexico. If by chance you do find yourself dragged here by your surfer friend know that the tacos are a good size and only two will do.

    (1)
  • Cyndy H.

Delicious fish tacos! The best I have ever had! Finely graded cabbage, crispy fish batter and just the right amount of sauce!!

    (5)
  • Tanner B.

Tbh if their food wasn't so damn good here i would not come because there is such bad service. The cashiers are idiots. They literally mess up your order every time you go there even if you don't order anything special. Amazing food, but absolutely terrible service

    (5)
  • Dustin S.

Must visit when in San Clemente. I've been coming here for 20 years , and visit every time I visit San Clemente on a surf trip. My go to is Bean and cheese burrito, fish taco, or potato taco!

    (5)
  • Sea G.

Pedros is the best, we love their tacos, as well as getting our favorite bean cheese and double potato burrito.

    (5)
  • Jessica A.

Unimpressive. As a native San Diegan, I'm picky when it comes to mexican food but based on the reviews, we thought we would give it a try. Husband liked the fish tacos. Son liked the steak tacos. Youngest ate the rolled tacos. Everything was "fine." I had the California burrito and could have done without. Too much sour cream, tons of guac, very little meat and nonexistent fries made for a very soggy, soft texture. Very unfortunate. Also, can you really trust a taco shop that serves packets of Heinz salsa? All in all, there are a million places I would rather choose.

    (2)
  • Alyssa F.

THE OG's, cheep mexican food, you cant live in SC and say you dont like Pedros!

    (5)
  • Thomas M.

If you like cafeteria Mexican food, this is the place for you! The food is just ok to tell you the truth, but serving salsa in ketchup packets (two per customer) and packaged chips out of a plastic bag just doesn't do it for me in this day and age. Oh, and I hope you dont have to go pee because they dont have restrooms for customers. I will never go back to this place again.

    (1)
  • Valysia D.

I have lived in SC my entire life and my whole family loves Pedro's, especially the southside location. When my mother in law told me her friends (multiple ladies!) card numbers were compromised and it was after each of them visited the southside Pedro's location I wasn't sure I believed her. I continued to visit the north Pedro's location frequently for weeks after hearing the warning from my mother in law until a few days ago when my brother said he wanted to "drive down to the good Pedro's" so I agreed and we went. Sure enough less than 48 hours after my transaction at southside Pedro's I am woken up at 7:00AM on a national holiday to be notified by my bank that my card information has been compromised. Seriously Pedro's, I am DISGUSTED with you. Do you know that this means one of YOUR OWN is doing this to your customers? Everyone has already turned their cheeks to the fact that your associates are RUDE. Always talking to each other. Never looking customers in the eye. Never asking how we are doing. We say please and thank you and they say nothing but NOW they're STEALING from us too? Sorry but that's just unacceptable.

    (1)
  • Melody G.

We extended our taste buds to try the fish tacos here which were ok but THE BIG disappointment was that they had NO FRESH SALSA!! WTH.. They gave us ketchup packet salsa! Who does that??? And the guy behind the window was not very friendly.. one visit was enough for us

    (3)
  • Mack A.

You won't be disappointed at all... Bottom line. Fish tacos are a must try for first timers but the California burrito as well as the bean and cheese burrito are solid staples as well. Carne asada meat is tender and juicy.. Not like the rubber eraser tasting pieces of kangaroo butt smear meat other taco stands use. Bean and cheese burrito is delicious. Beans don't taste very "refried" and I recommend adding rice for extra mouth watering satisfaction. Wish there was a Pedro's closer to me, but if you're going south on the 5 toward SD this is a great stop!

    (4)
  • Ismael B.

No Limes!!! Even Rubios has them, what fish taco goes with limes he said! SMH dude taking orders looks and acts like he's doing you a favor. Go to Rubios!

    (1)
  • Marcus Z.

Absolutely. Fish tacos here are why you come here (as in, don't get anything else). This is a quaint little joint just off the main road. Come. Order. Eat. Easy peasy. The outdoor seating is simple and pleasant. The fish tacos are damn good! You can't find many places with a tartar sauce this good.

    (4)
  • Laura M.

I was craving a California burrito while in the SD area and was not at all satisfied by my choice. The burrito was so greasy it soaked thru the wrapper. One bite, a glob of grease squirted up and out all over my shirt. The carne asada was tasteless. Nothing was spread out in the burrito. It was a clump of sour cream, a clump of meat, a clump of potato. Most disappointing was the hot sauce. They gave me packets of basically spicy vinegar. I also ordered chips and salsa. The pico de gallo was not bad but not at all spicy. When I saw the chips I was disappointed before I even opened the bag of store bought bland tortilla chips. I would have added a star if they had made up in some way with customer service but I can't guarantee I even got a thank you.

  • Matt H.

Pedro's is awesome cheap Mexican food I've been coming here for soo long! One of the best things about Pedro's was when we used to get it for lunch at SC High it was like the only good thing we had back then even though it was short lived. Anyway their potato tacos are quite good and have this yummy sauce on them defiantly something I usually order! The bean and cheese burritos are also quite good! If you can make it there before 11am their breakfast burritos are one of the best you can find i usually get a steak egg and potato breakfast burrito. One of my favorite things they have here has to be the Heinz Taco Sauce it goes quite well with the food and this is like the only place I've really seen it!

    (4)
  • Grace B.

Not sure why I haven't written a review for this place until now. If I'm traveling to LA from SD, I'm always timing it so that I can grab a breakfast burrito from this place. They serve breakfast burritos until 11, and they are worth every penny. I can't really recommend just one of them because I've tried them all, but the last time I ordered the steak burrito was so #delish. On a couple of occasions (because it was after 11) I ordered their fish tacos which are so tasty! But really...get a breakfast burrito. TIp: Cash only! So stop at the ATM before you go to buy something there.

Good food and good location in beautiful San Clemente CA. The food is also very good for the price. Can't complain-

    (4)
  • Patricia A.

I had the chicken fajita burrito. The chicken could have been more tender but the concept and flavor was fabulous. I took a chance that was worth it. Delicious. Other items on the menu, especially vegetarian burritos are tempting and I'm hopeful about them and also about the fish tacos. I will be back for more!.

  • Helen P.

My BFs favorite. I drove 65 miles each way on his birthday so he could have a breakfast carne asade burrito. It is a surfer and marine paradise, close to beach & Camp Pendelton open early and burritos full of meat and guacamole. Simple walk up or drive thru. Cash only & no restrooms. I think is nostalgia when he calls it the worlds best burrito, remembering his Semper Fi days. Its good, hot and fresh and a good value. Though he says if he was ever on death row this is his last meal.......i'd have aimed a lil higher and got a primerib on death row !!

    (4)
  • Becky S.

Would give zero stars if I could no where on the menu does it say they put a crap ton of mayo on the shrimp burrito! The carne asada burrito was dripping in grease! Needless to say it was a complete waste of money! We will not be returning!!!

    (1)
  • mario e.

Slightly more authentic than taco bell. Fish tacos were OK. Not bad but not great. Salsa comes in ketchup packets. Packets I say. Beans and rice werent very good. Gets points for being super clean and nicely decorated.

  • Tracey K.

I live in LA and have been going to Pedro's for the last 10 years. It is worth the drive to San Clemente alone - hand's down. If you go, you need to get the carne asada burrito and add potatoes (trust me) or get the fried chicken burrito. Also, their fish tacos and fish burritos are amazing. They come with the perfect amount of cole slaw and white sauce and are cooked to perfection. I don't use mild sauce, but my husband does and says it makes it that much better. You absolutely cannot go wrong with the carne asada burrito with added potatoes. My only note is that it can be quite greasy by the time you get to the bottom of the burrito, so I usually don't eat the last few bites, but that has never stopped me before. Definitely a must do in San Clemente.

    (5)
  • William O.

This place used to be good. Fish tacos were extremely dry, tortillas were like they weren't even warmed up. Carne asada wasn't up to par as well.

Bean and cheese burritos. YES! My kids grew up on these here. A local favorite for fast food. Good prices.

I cannot believe they don't have a restroom here. Also the meat used tastes very poor! Not a fan of this place

  • Danielle E.

Here's the deal with Pedro's it's not fine Mexican dining, it's not necessarily the most authentic, they only accept cash, their hot sauce comes in packets, and the only seating is on the patio. Pedro's is simple and total local kine grinds. It's quick, easy, and relatively cheap. You can count on most of the people eating on the patio being surfers straight from the beach. My husband and I frequent this place. We particularly love the asada burrito add potatoes. Like any other place it has it's good/bad days. We rarely eat there, we like to head down to T street and sit on a bench, so those hot sauce packets are perfect for us. The complaints I've read through are just people expecting life changing food with the benefits of a sit down joint. That's not Pedro's. And it's style isn't for everyone.

    (5)
  • Amy J.

Despite everything it says online. They are not accepting credit or debit cards. The ATM on patio is broke. But you can go across the street to 7-11 to use theirs. While in the drive thru. And they are quite rude when delivering this info. The menu is small but has good options for everyone. And after this pain in the ass the food better be amazing.

    (2)
  • Hills B.

Kinda rude. Not the best. Ordered a bean and cheese burrito. The tortilla was mushy and smelled like pladough. I can find a better burrito at Rubios, maybe even Taco Bell. Had some of my brothers fish tacos- DISGUSTING. too fishy. Bad fishy. Made me sick. Not worth it at all.

    (1)
  • M P.

I'm always surprised.. It's safe to say nothing here is cooked fresh, so just a warning if your pallet is used to a freshly cooked meal, run! Otherwise if Taco Bell is your standard you'll be just fine :) (but between you and me, I'd rather eat at Taco Bell). Our fish taco was a frozen fish stick with lots of mayo, yum! #sarcasm. The bean and rice burrito can only be described as nasty.. Probably old dehydrated beans and rice cooked in a bag (microwave style). The chicken was dry and chewy (yes chewy). A lovely place for sure! And when I discovered this is a local chain, the food just about came back up :X lol

    (1)
  • Virginia B.

First time at Pedro's. Thoroughly enjoyed the fish taco. Definitely need to come back again!

    (4)
  • Dennis A.

I have been coming here, occasionally, for several years. No mas. Never again. I ordered the "chicken fajita" burrito. A proper taco shop burrito should be about as big as your forearm. This was almost tiny, like a Red Bull can or smaller. There was nothing fajita-like about it. It was indeed chicken and onion and peppers, but that is where the similarity to fajitas ends. It was very wet and soupy , and reminded me of a gringo's crock pot recipe for "mexican" food. The "salsa", is inexcuably disgusting. It is a Heinz packet of vinegar with a slightly red hue. Just gross.

    (2)
  • Lucy T.

My Dearest Beloved Pedro, Why can't you just open up and have locations in every city in the United States, better yet...world? Why must you torment me with this long-distance relationship and only be in south county? Why can't you be closer to me? Is it fear of abandonment; I promise to never go astray to any other taco, I love you that much! Please Pedro come a little closer !!!!!! XOXO, number one potato taco fan ;-)

    (5)
  • Arwen E.

All I want is a shrimp taco or a bean and cheese burrito WITH POTATOES and I will be a happy chick!! People, this is a fast food mexican joint, dont expect to see fresh salsa!!! So what if it comes in a packet? The hell do you expect??? Its still bomb if you're looking for something quick and fairly cheap. You can walk up to the window barefoot! (I think that's disgusting to do on public streets BTW, so nasty) so how can you expect la senora in the back to take more time out of her day to prepare you high maintenance princesses some fresh salsa. PUHLEASE! You're barfoot covered in sand from the beach! how dare you! LOL! I'll make fresh (amazing) salsa at home! but when I'm in a rush and want someting wrapped in yummy tortilla goodness, I'll keep going to Pedro's. oh and the rolled tacos are good too!!

    (4)
  • Nathan C.

The price of the fish tacos at $3 was somewhat justifiable but almost $5 for a small asada burrito was not.

    (3)
  • Sum Dum Gai S.

I recognize that Pedro's is an iconic San Clemente landmark, but do not understand why. They have typical taco shop prices, but they are a very gringo version of a taco shop. For example, no salsa bar but rather hot sauce (mild or hot) that come in ketchup like packets. I uploaded a photo. I ordered a carne asana burrito, my barometer for taco shops. First it was typically priced at $4.19, but was small-half the size of a typical burrito (size of a Red Bull can). The meat was decently flavored and tender, but it had very little salsa fresca and guac. I don't get it. SC is not devoid of Latino people so why all the hype and fuss for a weak taco shop? I will not likely return. If this place was in Montana I'd get it but not in SoCal.

    (2)
  • Karina G.

If I could give them no stars I would. Had the famous fish tacos, the fish was frozen fish, not authentic. Don't get me started on the salsa. It comes in ketchup packages. They had no lime, who eats a fish taco with no lime. Worst mexican food restaurant that I have ever been to.

    (1)
  • Chad W.

I'm from Minnesota. I hear they have a delicious breakfast burrito but my cousin Greg won't invite me out to visit and try one.

This place is a hole in the wall, but it's truly a gem. Pedros, I have been eating your carne asada burrito for a very long time. Every time I come by, I have to drive about 30 miles each way. It's totally worth it. I totally recommend this place. Order the Carne asada burrito and add potatoes!!!

    (5)
  • Kristin M.

Love the fish tacos! Definitely priced right, good portion and good value. Friendly service and they now accept credit cards so super convenient.

    (4)
  • Joe C.

Horrible service. We had to continually go back to counter and get parts of our order that were missed by their staff. The fat Mexican girl who appeared to be the leader kept nickel and fuming us for every condiment and even water, even though they were all included in our original order. To top it off they claimed to have no lime for fish tacos. What kind of Mexican Resteraunt has no limes? Huge disappointment. We've been patronizing them for years, We will now make a point to go anywhere else but there, and tell our friends to do the same. Thanks for nothing.

This has been my favorite fast food Mexican for almost two decades. The cash only/credit cards accepted/then cash only has been an inconvenience that I've learned to live with, but the quality of the food after they've raised the prices is a deal breaker. My favorite items were the carne asada burrito and cheese quesadilla. Nice portions of delicious, savory meat, loaded with guacamole. Not anymore! I ordered one yesterday, my salivary glands were in over drive while I made my way home. I took the first bite and noticed that the meat looked like it had already been chewed for me. Mashed, shredded, flavorless beef, with hardly any guacamole at all. The quesadilla, which used to be a burrito size tortilla and loaded with cheese for a buck, is now a skinny smaller version for $1.49. They pre-make them ahead of time and reheat them at the time you order, so the cheese separates and the tortilla ends are stale. I understand that the cost of business is going up and that there will be price increases, but lowering the quality of their menu is going to cost them much more...good customers. It saddens me that this once delicious taco stand has lost my business.

My husband and I were on our drive home from San Diego to Orange County and we stopped by Pedro's to get a quick bite. I saw an equal amount of positive reviews as I did negative and this is what I thought... I ordered the carne asada burrito with potatoes and I thought it was amazing. It was not greasy, the tortilla was not undercooked it's just on the thinner side, the meat was tasty, and the burrito all together was great! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone for a quick bite to eat on the road.

Went here a long time ago for lunch while on a bike ride, so we thought we would try it again today. Ordered the bean and rice burrito with guacamole. Had to pay extra for salsa, this is the only Mexican place I have ever had to pay for salsa. With the Guacamole and salsa the price of the burrito doubled. When I opened the wrapper and took the first bite a got whiff of what smelled like cleaning solvent. My wife mentioned it too. Should have taken them back and got a refund but we were so hungry we just them. Afterwards I couldn't believe I ate something so bad and possibly could make me sick.

Had great service! Loved their carne asada burritos. Definitely worth trying! Wish I lived closer so I could eat there more regularly! I do wish they had more traditional tortilla chips but the ones they served were still half decent.

Crispy chicken tacos are amazing! Of course you have the try their famous fish tacos. They're the best and you won't find them as good anywhere else. Walk through is pretty fast most of the time!

Everyone loves Pedro's Tacos. Whether you're a local, just passing through or simply hungry after a long surf sesh at Trestles, Pedro's is the right choice. Try the carne asada burrito or a couple of fish tacos. Extra hungry? Add on a potato taco & go home happy. Don't forget to ask for extra hot sauce.

Good food if you're hungry for Mexican but don't expect much else. Love their taco sauce, use generously.

EVERYONE HAS TO TRY PEDROS TACOS! No, it is not a sit down restaurant with amazing ambiance or an esthetically pleasing environment but a cute little surfer walk up line and (in my opinion) it is THE BEST Mexican food of So. Cal.... and we have a LOT of great options. I am so thankful to have grown up close to San Clemente and been able to have eaten their heavenly food for years. They never disappoint and for the record, anything on their menu with potato in it is superb. Potato tacos, California burrito, I would recommend adding potatoes to anything you order and it makes it even better. I am in no other situation a potato fanatic, but Pedro's has the most amazing way of cooking the potatoes so they are crazy crunchy but partially soft with keeping all of the flavor and they truly compliment every item on the menu that I've tried. Pedro's Tacos truly has their flavors on point. Like I said, if you try it truly for the food they will never disappoint. And for people who complain about no seating or the way the walk up line works, pick up your food and head three minutes down the road to the beach!! No restaurant ambiance compares :)

Got a carne asada burrito. The meat was tough & low grade. Mostly beans & rice. I've been to many taquerias in my days & this is at the bottom of my list.

I liked the famous fish tacos, but not the service. The woman who takes drive thru orders is rude. I asked for both hot sauces and extra of them, she gave me instead a dirty look and only one variety. The more northern location (it's ass backwards on the street because it's technically South El Camino Real, but going in the north direction) is the worst, in my opinion. They've served me burnt fish and dry tortillas, twice. They are also where the rude lady works. The more southern location (technically called North El Camino Real) had better service, tortillas and fish, but their walk up service was ten times slower than the drive thru. We did swing by and try the carne asada tacos, and it was OK. The meat was flavorful but the taco was PILED with guacamole, and that ruined the flavor in my opinion. It's cash only and definitely "dive/diner" food but I do think they are pretty tasty. PS- the jamaica (hibiscus drink) is TOO sweet, but the horchata is just right.

I don't understand the hate that Pedro's has been getting on here. What do you expect, people? It's a taco stand that sells greasy, cheap pseudo-Mexican food. Just because it doesn't have a vegetarian menu or super good homemade sauce doesn't mean it's terrible. Give 'em a break, won't ya? Pedro's is the kind of place that appeals to surfers, skaters and locals that want cheap, greasy, good food. I've been going here as long as I can remember, and it's always been good. My favorite is the potato burrito, which is a bean burrito with hash browns added in. Their rolled tacos are also good, and their quesadillas are quite tasty also. Most menu items are under two dollars, and it's perfect for someone who is on a budget. They have some more expensive fare, like large burritos for around four bucks, and they are also delicious. Do know that you may have to pay for extra condiments like guacamole and pico de gallo. I honestly like the location of Pedro's. It's along a very busy road, so it does get crowded but the line moves quickly. They pump out food very quickly, and I have very rarely had an order so messed up I have to return to get it fixed. Most of the people that work here are very cool, and have a laid back Southern California attitude. Any flaws? Well, the car line can get ridiculously long, and can back up traffic on El Camino Real. I've also had an occasional bad burrito where something was a tad bit off, like it wasn't super fresh. But nothing worthy of giving it a two star review. And I still cannot believe that they put a Pedro's in Boston, Massachusetts. I am going to have to visit that location when I move to the East Coast.

The carne asada burritos are AMAZING!!! Everything was fresh and packed full of flavor! We went here 4 times in our 2 1/2 day stay! The burritos come with beef, guacamole & pico! Definitely worth a try or two ;)

Fish taco, bean burrito and lemonade. keep it simple and timeless, I did and I love this place.

  • Logan H.

I love pedros!!! try a veggie burrito, a potato taco and maybe a bean, cheese and potatoe burrito.... ugh i could eat here every day. becareful on the weekends cuz that line can get long and they dont accept cards anymore. and half the time theyre atm outside is broken.

  • Beepy D.

The only thing worth a damn here is the "Lupe's Mistake" burrito and the horchata. Their "Famous fish tacos" are microwaved fish sticks encased in a rubber corn tortilla, topped off with a big scoop of KFC coleslaw. If the employees could be more blatantly apathetic and rude, they would just throw the unbagged ingredients out the drive-thru window.

    (2)
  • Lea S.

Ahhhmazingg. Can't believe I haven't been here before now but I always see a line, esp on the weekends there. Try their shrimp quesadilla, A+++ SO good. Only 4 stars because the guy at the window was a little rude but other than that, they are quick and good prices. Will def be back and recommend them to friends!

We used to love Pedro's. They were always a cash business, which makes it tough to swing through quickly if you don't think ahead. They began taking cards a few years ago, hallelujah! But then they went back to cash only for some reason. When I mentioned it they said to use the ATM on their patio. Yeah, right. Pay $3.00 to get $20 out. Nice money making operation. I would actually order more if they took cards, I don't see how it really benefits them in long run. Maybe they pay 1-3% of their card sales to the company, but if your sales increase by 10% isn't that better? And your customers are happier... I think it is just part of the overall "cheapskate" feeling I get from Pedro's in the last few years. Their portions have gone down in size and the prices have gone up. I like to order the rolled tacos but they are usually bathing in guacamole which I normally love. Pedro's guacamole is ok but sometimes it is a little "off" so I like or order it on the side, also makes it neater to eat with your fingers! I was shocked to find out that when you order guacamole on the side they charge you for it. When I questioned this they said that it is a larger portion than they would put on top. Really? Just fill the cup halfway then! I really feel like they just want to glean every last penny that they can from each customer. We have pretty much stopped going here for these reasons. There are way too many great Mexican food choices in San Clemente to deal with being "taken" at Pedro's drive thru.

This is a great place to go if you want quick and inexpensive Mexican food that's good! I have had the veggie burrito (which doesn't have cheese) and it was surprisingly good! Even though I love spice, the flavor of the mild taco sauce is actually better atop that burrito than hot sauce. I'm not sure what this burrito is called on the menu, or if it's even ON the menu but this is my favorite combination: Potatoes Cheese Salsa Bean Cheese Rice Guacamole Onions The fish tacos here are also very good! My first time trying it I was a bit hesitant since fish and fast food don't tend to be a good combination, but Pedros is good.

Thank you, for everything. First I want to say this is my son and daughter in laws favorite place. yesterday they catered my sons wedding. They took extra steps to make sure the food was fresh and tasty. The manager and staff were wonderful.

    (5)
  • Dana W.

Good fish tacos, others liked the veggie burritos, good, quick service. Just a little on the high side price-wise at $300 per fish taco, but the portion was relatively generous. They don't have a salsa bar, so they hand out packets of salsa, but the quality/taste of their "hot" variety of salsa was good. Wood go again.

    (4)
  • Michael S.

I would give 0 stars if I could! The Carne Asada burritos are about the size of the frozen burritos you get at the grocery store (and have about as much flavor). I asked for salsa to go with my mini burrito and the guy hands me 2 salsa packets, wow!!! Now that's what I call authentic! I'll never go back to this place again. Word to the wise....keep going a couple more miles up and spend your five bucks at Taco Bell, you'll get more food, with SOME flavor, and probably better salsa packets.... These guys should take a trip down the 5 south into San Diego and see what a REAL taco shop tastes like.

Confirmation that you should always consider joints with "only" 3.5 stars. I spent two weekends in San Clemente this summer and found Pedro's as I departed the final time. I wanted to get something quick and was pleased to see a taco place was nearby. I was settingling for a 3.5 star place due to the urgent need to EAT. Pedro's over delivered against my meager expectations. I ordered three tacos: The carn[e] [a]sada - my least favorite hence the brackets as I don't want to add to the positive counts The fish taco - a fish pattie served in corn tortillas, but overall good flavor The potato taco - still not sure if I got two fish tacos or if one was a potato as I had ordered - it had a goldent fried exterior and a soft middle... I was pretty hungry so it was good The salsa which is served in packets and is a true sauce (well-processed) was surprisingly good.

  • Michael T.

looks like I ended up with a cold re-fried rolled tacos, nasty. Also had a fish taco which had a frozen fish stick inside. I would rather go to costco for a hot dog.

Shocking this place doesn't have more reviews! I've been coming to Pedro's since 1995 and a loyal fan! I live in San Diego but travel up to L.A often and rarely do I head up north without stopping off for a burrito. The first time I went a friend took me out to try the best carne asada burrito and I have to say he was right! One of the many great things about the food is the portion. These aren't half pound burritos but rather just the right size for a good meal without feeling like you are going into food coma after eating a heavy Mexican meal. As I stated, the carne asada burrito's are the best and well worth the drive. Another favorite of mine are the bean and cheese. If you've read my reviews, you know bean & cheese is a favorite of mine and Pedro's ranks up in there in the top 5 for bean & cheese. This shop is located VERY conveniently right off the 5 freeway and you can get off the freeway, pick up a bag of burritos (I'm usually buying for my friends who also know how great they are) and get right back on the freeway with very little of a delay in your travel but SO worth the stop. There is no indoor seating and I don't really know if there is any outdoor seating. It's pretty much drive thru or walk up window. I decided it was time to review Pedro's after visiting for many years and was happy to see there is a new shop opening closer to my home in Vista! By the way, the prices are quite good! No $6 burrito here! If you've never tried Pedro's do yourself a favor, get off the freeway and treat yourself.

  • Laura P.

Love, love , love Pedro's. Fish tacos are amazing! This is an inexpensive taco stand...there is a line outside midweek for a reason. The beans are like what mom made...simple bean burrito is worth the price and will leave you wishing you didn't live so far away. My son dismisses this place for the taco sauce "packets"...but..again...this is a taco stand. Try it...see what you think.

Decent and fast Mexican food. Perfect for on your way down or on your way up from the beach. The good is that it's cheap. The bad is they don't take credit in the drive thru.

  • Delen L.

Great stop. Walk up or drive threw. Just had a chorizo burrito with potatoes. Kinda sucks to get charged extra for potatoes. Still great to get a short lil chubby. I'm talkin about the burritos. Let's keep it classy. It's a little steep in price for portions. Over all, I dig this spot because it's got some chill outdoor seating and a tasty flavor.

  • Nic J.

When I used to live in the area i used to frequent this place for their fish and shrimp tacos/burritos. I've been to both locations(the one on North El Camino) and have never been let down at either. The tacos and burritos are good size and very tasty. I'm always in the mood for fish and shrimp tacos and this place def satisfied me. My only complaint was that they handed out some cheap a** hot sauce in a packet like Taco Bell. I wish they made their own hot sauces like most independent mexican restaurants. When ever I'm in the are I'll stop by this place. Their quesadillas aren't bad either.

Absolutely amazing after a good surf session. PAY ATTENTION to the price 99 Cents will not get you a whole lot of "fresh" anything.

  • Heywood J.

I had the carne asada burrito and a fish taco. Both were delicious. However, taste is subjective and I thought the beef was a little salty and the fish taco lacked a little bit of zing. That being said, one cannot go wrong eating here, unless you want lengua. You'll be SOL if you do only because it's not on the menu and for me that's going to cost Pedro's one star. Still, I would return there to eat in a heartbeat because the price is right, the food is damn good and San Clemente is a little slice of heaven.

I've tried with this place several times, and what do people get excited over? POSITIVE: It's cheap and really close to where I live & the service is quick. The carne asada burrito is decent as well as the chicken quesadilla. My girlfriend backs the fish tacos. NEGATIVE(s): It's just so tasteless! Give me some flavor! The bean and cheese burrito tastes like a buncha beans w/ zero cheese. The Potato burritos isn't really a potato, but a hash brown which is gross. The cheese quesadilla is a folded large tortilla w/ bland cheese! Can they just call part of the menu the 'Flavorless Items?'Also, what's up with not having chips and salsa? Overall, it's so-so food that's cheap. If you want more flavor just go to Pico for some Del Taco. It's a slight upgrade from Pedro's, sorry.

OVER-RATED, O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D..Welcome to Pedro's tacos. Home of the frozen fish stick taco. Totally thought San Clemente was better than this.

  • K B.

5 STARS FOR SURE! My first time eating there was in '97 but I lived about an hour away and didn't have my own car to drive, so it had been a while since I had been there. Then my family moved to San Clemente in '02 and I was beyond excited to have Pedro's within a mile from the house! I love their rolled tacos and their potato tacos. The "taco sauce" made by Heinz is amazing!! The service is quick and most of the time friendly - but being that they are always busy, sometimes it's just pay and go - which is fine by me because the sooner I can enjoy the food, the better. Often it's crowded, come the weekend and summer days, but it's actually not that long of a wait.....but if so, it's totally worth it! The atmosphere is kick back - cruise in your flip flops and beach clothes. They have some outdoor seating or you can roll thru the drive-thru......where sometimes the drive line extends out to El Camino Real, but it goes pretty quick. Great prices, great portions, great eats!! Trust me, you go there once you will be a customer for life.

  • Kevin W.

This is the WORST Mexican food I have ever had in my life period! I tried it twice cause I thought it was an off night the first time. WRONG! The beef reminds me of what I feed my dog from the can... The fish taco is a damn Fish stick! BARF!! To top it off the potato taco is one of those mcdonalds breakfast pattys in a tortilla! STAY AWAY! I'd much rather eat at the Taco bell across the street!

  • Katie P.

Great taco stand. The fish taco was the best one we had anywhere in Southern CA. And we tasted many. However, we both agreed that the Carne Asada taco was a little better than the fish taco, and that's saying a lot. We wanted to try the friend chicken burrito, had heard a lot about it, but were too full after trying all the tacos. Great place. Craving it already for our next SoCal vacay.

This place has several items that are very tasty, and the value is amazing. Among my favorites here are the Carne Asada Burrito, which is pretty spicy, and the fish taco, which is a battered fillet version. Both of these are extremely flavorful, and I've enjoyed them every time. And the value is incredible. I mean, when you go here it seems like every night is Taco Tuesday or something. We've gotten a burrito, several tacos, a quesadilla, and it's 10 bucks or so. A great bargain. For the folks criticizing the lack of chips and salsa; this is not a sit down restaurant. It's a drive through joint, with tacos and burritos and that's it. Get real.

  • Pinaynblk X.

I love this place... I just had a potato burrito and it never fails my cravings.. I've been going to this place for the last 7 years and the food never changes. This place isn't fancy nor do they serve chips (that's an American thing) it's a drive thru the only fresh salsa goes in the food. It's perfect for a person on the run (Hints the salsa packets) It's not for everyone.. Which is fine by me.. that means I can get my food faster..

    (5)
  • Eric B.

I swear, the last time I came by the drive-thru you could see a stack of industrial sized cans labelled "Carne Asada". So, as you may imagine I opted for the chicken...I thought beaks and claws were only used for hot dogs and baloney?

    (1)
  • KC S.

Stopped by here on the way home from SD... It's a lil beach Mex joint that serves pretty good carne asada tacos and fish tacos. The tacos are a good portion with lots of meat and a lg chunk of deep fried battered fish! It would have gotten a better review if they gave out limes and sold beer. But over all not bad for a last min drive by!

    (3)
  • Josh C.

The best burrito I have ever had, hands down! Carne asada with potato, guacamole, onion and cilantro. I also add the packet hot sauce that is delicious, strangely its made by Heinz. I miss this place immensely....tear

  • Marcos S.

I should have read further into the reviews because i would have found out that the fish tacos here suck. And true to what the other yelper said it was a "fish stick" in a tortilla!!! The salsa picante was anything but, it tasted line the kind you used to get with taco boats back in high school(water with a lil flavoring). I didn't try anything else on the menu so I can't speak for that. Make sure that you don't get the fish taco! Stick with something that's a lil less hard to screw up(Carne asada tacos or burrito)

    (2)
  • Killer S.

The chicken fajita burrito was fantastic, but the fish taco didn't quite live up to the hype. If you're going to label something on the menu with "Famous" it damn well better be the best thing on there. The fish was a bit soggy though the cabbage was plentiful and fresh and covered with a tasty cream sauce. The fajita burrito, on the other hand... damn... mmm...mmm...mmm....

I stopped here one evening years ago while making the Otay Mesa to Long Beach run. It was dark and we were in my little Mitsubishi diesel pickup. I ordered a fish taco at the drive-through and Brad ordered a burrito. As we pulled back onto the freeway Brad said Oh Crap. I said what's wrong and he said that he thought that they gave us two burritos. I was starving so I said just give me it, I really don't care, I'll eat it. It wasn't a burrito. It was a huge fish taco, and it was really good. So good that I had to try another on our next trip. So good that after 15 years I rarely order anything else. Set me up!!!

Came here after climbing in Santee. Surfer friend recommended this place, it's right off of the 5 and next to the ocean. This stuff really hit the spot. Quick. Cheap. Delicious. Carne Asada Burrito -- $3. My friend seems to always get the cheese and bean burrito with potatoes. Highly recommend if just driving through and need a place to stop for a bite. No bathroom! You'll want to make sure to have access to one in a few hours..

so.. it's no taco mesa.. but reall, what is? Just tried it today on my way down to hang out at San Onofre State Beach. Had a carne asada burrito with potatoes and Orange Bang!!!! I love ORANGE BANG!!! Anywhere that serves Orange Bang!!!! automatically gets 4 stars in my book. And the burrito was really really delicious.. didn't give me a stomach ache or anything. Will definitely come back when I'm heading down in that direction.

AHHHHH PEDRO'S TACOS PLEASE OPEN IN LA!!!!!!!!!! I hate the fact that I have to drive 2 hours to get their delish carne asada burritos! However I think they are damn worth the trip. The carne asada burritos have a little bit of beans, lots of carne asada and best of all GUACAMOLE! All for just $3! Anywhere else you go, they charge you extra if you want gacamole in something. Like others have said, there is limited seating but the beach is a few blocks away so go eat there. I love you Pedro's Tacos...and Pedro, whoever he is, he is fabulous.

  • Michele U.

i don't understand the hype about this joint. They claim world famous fish tacos. what it is is a fish stick in two corn tortillas with about half a head of cabbage in "Secret" sauce (which i suspect is mayonnaise), and the "fried chicken" taco is two chicken fingers in corn tortillas with an obscene amount of cabbage as well. meh. plus they have Heinz brand hot sauce. i should have known...

Great Mexican food and a staple location in San Clem. This place doesn't mess around, they're in the business of giving you a quality burrito...and that's it. So if you're in the mood for no BS and just some good Mex served up quick, this is the place.

The worst Mexican food I have ever had!!!!! I was going to cook tacos tonite but didn't feel like making a mess and going to the store. My husband and I went here just about an hour ago and I couldn't even finish the food it was that nasty. If you have any sort of refined palate or just like fresh food do NOT eat here!! Southern California is known for awesome taco shops; this is a disgrace!!! We ordered their fish tacos, potato tacos and a side of rice and beans ( they forgot one of the tacos in our order but didn't mind when we tasted the first one) For starters I knew it was going to be bad when the hot sauce was in Heinz individual packets; GROSS. The potato taco was literally a nasty frozen hashbrown patty that soaked up 2 nakpkins worth of grease, some mayo and shit*y shredded cabbage in an even greaser corn shell. The fish taco was mostly batter almost no fish and was a mess, all I could taste was the deep fried oil. The rice and beans was mediocre at best. BLAH what a waste of a dinner! would have been better off eating Taco Bell! YUCK!

thank you pedros for getting me through high school. the good old days, bean and cheese burrtio for 89 cents, quesadilla for $1. the prices have gone up since then, but no by much. Pedros has 3 locations, northside san clemente off palizada exit, southside san clemente off of el camino real (the best) and san juan by the mission which i dont know much about. If you want to spend less than $5 and get full of food that is much better quality that rigobertos and albertacos then go to Pedros next time on your way to san diego. recommendations: fish taco is a must...the quesadillas you cant go wrong and the carne asada burrito is very good and filling, comes with guacamole. its got drive thru so its very quick and easy, i cant say the service is what it once was but who cares.

On the way back from surfing on a day off, Pedro's Tacos is sometimes the spot for lunch. Last time a friend and I went there and had a feast and enjoyed all , with the exception of the Potato Taco. the Fish Taco and Bean Burrito that I had was plenty to satisfy my hunger however. They were both real good... or was it just that I had surfed for a few hours and that will always make you hungry? No they are a great spot to stop for some great tacos. The Potato tacos however let much to be desired. Imagine a McDonalds hash brown put into a tortilla... could be way better.

By far the best burrito I have ever had before. Carne Asada Burrito WITH potatoes!!!!!!!!!!! which really means tater tots crafted together with a seasoned beef, guacamole, and a perfectly soft tortilla. I would not recommend you get anything else. I have had some other items on the menu, such as bean burrito, three rolled tacos (aka taquitos) they really are not very impressive. Fav Combo: Carne Asada Burrito WITH potatoes Three rolled tacos one soda (only come in one size) one siesta They only reason I see someone not rating Pedro's above 4 stars is because they have not tried the Carne Asada Burrito WITH potatoes. The food quality might not be up to par with some of the other yelpers listed below (3 star Sybil AKA Stewie B) what do you expect you are eating at a drive through shack in a true hippie, surf city. You know what to expect just by looking at the place.

Pedro's makes a mean fish taco. Absolutely delicious -- like a filet o' fish that's Mexican and actually good.

If you surf in SoCal or traveled with someone who does, you have inevitably eaten at Pedro's Tacos in San Clemente. A no frills, Americanized Mexican food joint. The hot sauce is in Heinz packets and they have interesting combinations such as the fried chicken soft taco ($1.89). This being said, you have to take it for what it is, a post -surf refilling station. Nothing groundbreaking or amazing, just cheap and tasty food. I always order the same items the bean and cheese burrito ($.99) and the cheese quesadilla ($.99). Whenever I hear that someone is driving in the near vicinity of San Clemente, I always ask them to grab some food and "put it on the dash to keep it warm for me" and bring it on by.

Two carne asada tacos that blew me away in taste, quality, and can't forget to mention portion size!! Breakfast burrito is a winner as well..

Honestly, if you eat Pedro's when you aren't completely wiped out from surfing, it is only slightly above average. HOWEVER, if you are coming in from a surf session, and just wiped, there is not a better thing in the entire world than the food at Pedro's taco's. It's amazing, it's like they know you just came up from Trestles, or Churches and they make the food extra good. I always get the 2 carne asade taco's, and dump an entire packet of that jalapeno taco sauce across the top. It is amazing, thats all I can say.

7.70 for a bean rice chicken cheese burrito. They charge for a cup of water- who does that? I think the charge was nominal (less than a quarter) but things like that leave a bad taste in my mouth. They lost future business, but did make a quarter. Food was standard inexpensive mexican.

This is a locals spot to eat. I found about it when I was a little girl while surfing with a bunch of older guys- we would always stop by for a quick bite on the way back home. The menu is cheap and their carne asada burritos are so tasty, you could add papas (potatoes) to your burrito too... I want one right now!

  • Banana H.

I've been eating at Pedro's since I was 16 and able to drive a car. All you need to know is chicken rolled tacos with guac, cheese quesedilla and their yummy taco sauce (that I will save in my fridge for scrambled eggs) and you're good to go. A local San Clemente staple.

This place is awesome, for me it was hard to find a great taco joint in South OC...this place rocks. Thier posole is awesome! thier small tacos are the shiznit!!!!! Go!!! DOOOO IT!!!!!

Bean, Rice, Potatoe, Cheese. The only way to go at Pedro's. This is the ULTIMATE burrito. Its filling. Its crunchy. Its flavorful. Its Cheesey!!! This burrito trumps ALL other B&C burritos. This place is small, quaint, and not for the those who fear the "real" mexican food experience. The other delightful meals are the veggie tacos and the breakfast burritos. This place is perfect for some delish quick mexican food.

    (5)
  • Christine U.

DO NOT order the taquitos. Straight from the frozen box of sysco...dry. I thought all fried things were delish. What happened? Fish taco, fried...ok nothing to write home about. A frozen fillet from the box, fried, and topped off with cabbage tomatoes, and special sauce.

This place is pretty good. Everything I have had there is decent. They have great fish tacos, really really good fish tacos. Everything else is decent but the fish tacos are by far the staple item here. Better fish tacos than anywhere around San Clemente for sure. They do have a pretty good carne asada burrito also. Those two items are the things to order here, you will not be disappointed.

after a hot day at Legoland with the family, I pulled into this locals-Taco Dive Joint hearing about the raves regarding the Potato Tacos....well I do have to admit they were pretty good, in fact, all the tacos were really nice (fried chicken, potato, shrimp, carne asada and my fave the fish tacos - they're spicy enough, at good sized portions, and I can see the local appeal. The environs need a quick rinse though...it was pretty messy and there's trash everywhere, plus the service was pretty slow. Last thing, get in line early as the place has plenty of fans and the line for the drive-thru is pouring down El Camino Real. A nice place to grab and go.

Driving back from San Diego, the GPS system offered many fine selections for a snack on the road back to LA. The carne asada burrito was amazing. Tasty with rice and guacamole. Really juicy which probably wasn't the best decision since I tried to eat this great burrito on the road going 70.

  • Jenn P.

HOLY FUCKING TACOS is all I have to say about this fine establishment. The best tacos/burritos EVER. And since we hit this joint up after spending the weekend at my BFF's Beach House, I can completely attest to them being a miraculous hangover cure. One little trick, whether it be taco or burrito, you gotta get it with potatoes. Sweet Christ. Those things are a little slice of heaven. The horchata is also bomb diggity; just don't pour a beer in to the empty horchata glass like the dumbass I am for a walk down the beach. Horchata remains + cold beer = NO BUENO.

Ordered the fish taco and shrimp taco. Great tasting and awesome price! Would definitely go back if we're ever in the area.

Was travelling through with my hubby. We both had the fish tacos and orange bang! Awesome fish tacos. Fried, but didn't taste too greasy and the breading was really light. Great cabbage slaw and sauce. Only complaint was, the second time we came (cuz the first time was so good), they were really busy and just threw the ingredients together, with the fish on top of the slaw/sauce, not nestled beneath where the flavors could drip down and coat the fish. I know it's not fine dining but presentation matters, even for fast food...it's about the flavors. Definitely try it. We only went to this location!

this place is a ritual for us after every surf session. been going here ever since our parents would drive us down to trestles. for me it's anyone of the following: bean and potato burrito, carne asada with potato burrito, rolled tacos, of course the fish tacos, and a lemonade. it's great tasting, great portions all at a fair price. don't bother yourself with any other taco/burrito joint in san clemente. pedro's is it. btw, this location tends to back-up w/traffic due to the small parking lot. i recommend heading down a mile to the 2nd location in downtown san clemente. Update: 8/23 lately this stuff as been going right thru my system in a very unpleasant way. i thought maybe it was just me or the triple shot of espresso i had before my surf session. but on 2 occasions now, after eating a bean burrito or fish taco, i've been getting the wheezy feeling. hopefully, they get this correct soon, or they're gonna lose my business.

Great food, and it's always all foil-wrapped and super portable! Eat great Mexican at the beach, in your car, on your patio at home, ANYWHERE! Great Mexican take-out is how I classify Sr. Pedro's. What they lack in dining experience/ambiance they make up for in flavor! I like getting the Combo Burrito (great guacamole made with REAL avocados) and adding sour cream. How else can you pack that many calories into one tortilla!! Rolled Tacos are also pretty delish. Their location in San Juan Capistrano (right by the Mission) is even better than the two SC locations. That location has a bigger menu, and also everything there somehow has an even better flavor....

  • Melinda D.

Pedro's is THE place for tacos in San Clemente. My fave is of course the fish tacos sans white sauce. The kids love the quesadillas and hubby likes fish tacos too. The only thing that stinks is the drive through location and line. I always get stuck waiting in the alley. After picking up your food, head down to Linda Lane beach to enjoy it!

  • Marvilyn Q.

Okay...I can only assume that I am spoiled by living in a central cali locale that has tons of delicious, cheap taquerias. This place, granted, had fresh guac, but the rice came out of a box, the meat in the taquitos or "rolled tacos" and the carne asasa burrito was incinerated to beef jerky, ...My mom would smack me with her chancla if I compared her food to this place! The pluses...drive thru and super quick(which may explain things)! I don't think I got quicker service at a MCcdee's so there you go. I describe this place as a step up from taco bell. If this is the best around I'll stick to pizza while I'm down here.

After a long day of surfing down in San O, mexican food was something we were all craving. My friend suggested that we try this place and it was some of the best tacos and carne asada i've had in a long time. I dont know if it was because I was hungry or what but I ate the burrito and taco pretty quickly. Im definitely heading back here whenever im around the area.

Get ready for some heartburn! Pedro's Tacos has some massive breakfast burritos that will leave you full pretty much all day -- sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs, peppers, you name it, they will put it in the burrito. Top it off with some hot sauce and you are good to go. Pedro's is a San Clemente landmark and good for at least one try.

    (3)
  • Aaron T.

Pedro's is the spot anytime I am hungry is San Clemente. Bean and cheese or carne asada are excellent, be sure to add potatoes for maximum enjoyment.

  • Jayme M.

Horrible tacos!!! You will never get the same taco twice even though you order the same food. The California burrito failed in every way. Ordered it once and it came with two small pieces of what looked like potato so the second time we asked for extra potato and got a completely different burrito that had shredded beef, huge chunks of tomatoes, at most a teaspoon of sour cream, a few pieces of shredded cheese and maybe 3 pieces of what looked like potatoes. Not worth the money! The fish tacos were horrible. I could go on and on but I won't. I think you get the point. We will not recommend this place or go back.

  • Laurie S.

If you are going through San Clemente you MUST STOP HERE! My husband and I were visiting my family for Christmas and we drove from San Diego to San Clemente for Pedro's. My husband loves their burritos. The food is very reasonably priced and super tasty. Get the rolled tacos. You will NOT be disappointed. Parking is hard to come by in the little lot, but there is plenty of street parking if you don't mind a little walk.

    (5)
  • Beth H.

Shrimp tacos, ordered 13 at a time, yes......13 at a time...what does that tell you? One FUCKING great shrimp taco. The shrimp is so fresh, the cabbage crisp, tortilla soft and warm, creamy sauce and fresh pico de gallo. If I have to say anymore, you just don't get it. If you just don't get it, you don't deserve to eat at Pedro so stay the hell away and don't bogart my shrimp, bitch.

    (5)
  • Elaine N.

This place is suuuuuper cheap! Ordered the famous fish taco and the fried chicken taco. Good size, tasty sauce... both were delicious.

  • Tamirra S.

We were trying to figure out whether the chicken on our tacos ever said, "Cluck Cluck." We were thinking it either cooed or cawed. In any case, there was about 36 hours of seriously wishing I hadn't consumed that taco. I should have known when the guy ahead of us had his dinner in his hand in about 30 seconds. In other words, who knows how long the supposed tacos were prepared ahead of time. Eat at your own risk and don't say I never told you.

    (1)
  • Scott S.

I wasn't a fan of the fish taco. Too much sauce for my taste. But it's quick, inexpensive and piping hot. The beauty for me is in it's simplicity. Frank's veggie burrito or the bean, cheese and rice burrito are my favorites. I'll have to venture out and try some new items. But a little taco sauce on a BCR is fantastic. It was a staple of my adolescence. Service is fast but the people working are alwasy indifferent. Oh well...it won't prevent me from going back.

After trying many tacos/taco stands since moving to So Cal, I finally found one that I actually like! The worst thing in the world of tacos is a dry taco where are you taste is corn tortilla and cabbage - no such tacos here! My husband tried the carne asada taco and it was juicy and flavorful. He also had Lupe's Mistake Burrito which was a shrimpy, garlicky, creamy land of goodness. I had the fish taco which was good but note that it is fried, not grilled. I had also heard some murmurs about a potato taco so I had to try it here and it was so good, like a hash brown patty in a taco! Their salsa and dressing was fresh and saved these from being dreaded dry tacos.

Okay, just ate at this place yesterday and boy it boggles my mind how it's currently sittin' at 4 stars? Oh Yelp how you have led me astray! Was with two companions and this is what we ordered: 2 Fish tacos 2 Potato Tacos 1 Bean and Cheese Burrito Extra Salsa FIRST OFF, how can you even go about passing plain chopped up tomatoes and onions as "salsa" Pedro's Tacos? That is disgraceful and almost unforgivable. The mixture contained no seasoning, no magic, nothin'. To be brief, Pedro's Tacos' salsa is what losing would taste like. Mind you we were pretty hungry so keep in mind that hungry usually makes even mediocre food taste instantly satisfying. I first jumped into the Fish Taco and like J S. mentioned, they are rather reminiscent of Rubio's but IMO Rubio's actually serves it up better. It consisted of two tortillas, a piece of fried fish (think fillet), cabbage, some sort of cream sauce, and "salsa." At this point I thought, "Okay... perhaps the potato taco will make up for it." In my mind I was imaging the crisp texture and exploding flavors of my beloved potato tacos from Tortas Mexico in Pasadena but boy was I let down. I mean, BEYOND let down, more like face shoved in the dirt. Pedro's potato tacos consisted of the same ingredients as the Fish but instead of a fillet it had, get this, A HASH BROWN. As I pulled back the foil I just couldn't stop laughing. OH AND ALSO (THIS IS THE TOPPPER, I DON'T KNOW HOW I FORGOT TO MENTION IT) Pedro's Taco's serves no taco sauce. You get the taco sauce packets from elementary school, homie. I know you know what I'm talking about. TA DOW HOW YA LIKE ME NOW. Not very much actually. They have no bathroom. DO. NOT. LIKE.

Our friend who lives in Mission Viejo suggested that it was a great local little taco shop. Well, let me first start by saying they only take CASH, no credit cards....the older gentleman who help us was very unfriendly. Short answers and a bit rude. It felt like we were an annoyance to help anybody. I asked if I could get a fajita burrito without the tortilla since I can't have the carbs and he flat out said "NO" we don't do that. I said, just make the burrito without the shell but he said "NO". So I was shock and said okay, just a waste of a tortilla....He couldn't give a damn. Then when we got to our RV, to top it all, the food wasn't even good. I will NOT be going back there, ever! That man needs to get a job he likes and stop taking it out on his customers....

I like this place a lot and used to go there all the time until they became "cash only" a few months ago. Is this 1995? This is such great food but how many people under 40 carry cash anymore? With modern tendering services like Square, PayPal and other affordable credit card options, there's no reason for such an outdated payment method.

Weak Mexican food. Their potato taco was terrible. It was a taco with a soggy, greasy hashbrown in it. My bean and cheese burrito was super bland. I had to use so much of their generic hot sauce packets that they bought at Smart and Final. GROSS FOOD. I don't understand why this place is so popular. There was a line of 10 cars pouring into the street for drive-thru. Also, the guy taking orders was an asshole. He was disgusted by the fact that i needed extra napkins and sauce for his nasty food. I'm seriously gonna open up a legitimate mexican spot next to his and put his ass out of business. San Clemente, your taste in food blows. Sorrrrrry!

Tried this place because the sign said it had been around since 1986... and I personally think this is a a great year because it was the year that I was born... mwahhaa... Joking aside however, because these fish tacos are NO JOKE. Having grown up in the desert, surrounded by authentic Mexican food, has given me high standards of deliciousness. Que rico comida solamente. Fish cooked to perfection. Simple. Yummy. Want one now.

OK, so like your a Marine about to leave for your second combat deployment (first one was Iraq,07-08) this time its Afghanistan, your leaving tomorrow on a jet plane, what are you thinking of . . . your girlfriend, your family, . . .hell no, my client, was thinking of Pedro's Taco's. He told me they were the best in the world and he was not far off! So if you are on I-5 coming back to LA from San Diego, don't forget to hit pedro's tacos on the way home. Hit the drive through, Pedro's will get you home. Oh yeah, we had the Quesadilla and the Steak and Potato Tacos. A hungry US Marine gets his last So-Cal grub on before going to war! U-rah

This has been a favorite since high school. Nothing like a carne asada burrito after a long day at the beach...awww. Bean and cheese burrito is also great. Ten years ago I tried Pedros in High School...I actually had a boyfriend go away for school to the Naval Academy and I packed a bunch of carne asada burritos on dry ice to transport back to Maryland at the end of his boot camp! He was so excited! And yes, the burritos made it! Wheeewww Do you understand the cravings?! Yumm...

Vegetarian options are lousy. Spent an extra .73 cents to add potatoes to my crappy beans & rice burrito and got half a greasy hash brown in the bottom/last bite. The guacamole tasted old and weird and there are no chips. What? No chips? No Mexican coke either. Epic Fail.

    (1)
  • Megan S.

Remember when Mexican food was healthy and had the freshest ingredients? Yeah, neither do I. Which is EXACTLY why I love this place. 1 ordered of rolled tacos (comes topped with cheese and guacamole) + (Bean and cheese burrito + mild sauce slathered all over it) = happy stomach and wallet. Line backs up, but just wait...it's cheap and awesome. Oh, and go to this location, the one north of the 5 is the impostor.

Pedro's Tacos is known for its World's famous fish taco. Thankfully this popular item has lived up to its hype. When you receive your order, it comes in an ugly aluminum foil wrapping but never judge a book by its cover. All of the tacos served come with battered cod which tastes just like they caught the fish a second ago and threw it on a grill. Beware: this is messy food so have napkins nearby! It is garnished with salsa, shredded cabbage and their signature dressing. When you take a bite, you are hit with its unique and original taste that takes you back to Mexico. I power through these tacos so fast so don't feel guilty when you have to order two or more. The great thing about the beach food served is that it comes cheap. You don't need very much money to fill up your empty stomach. The only thing I suggest not hitting up is their potato taco. Sorry for the vegetarians who love this item. The potato taco is just a corn tortilla stuffed with friend potatoes much like hash browns. The taste reminded me of rocks so I piled on packets of hot sauce to mask the taste. I highly suggest trying anything on the menu except the potato taco. Luckily, I had ordered their thirst-quenching, flavorful pink lemonade that aided me gulp down that potato taco. The other disappointing fact is the customer service. Workers seem uninterested and sad. And being a loyal customer to Pedro's, I notice this wasn't a onetime thing. The workers don't know how to speak perfect English so it's a little bit of a challenge to order food. I don't mind this too much because I came here for food first. The great food, view, and beach atmosphere leave me wanting more. If you liked all thing things I just talk about, get your butt to San Clemente pronto. This is a perfect place for hanging with friends, grabbing a quick bite after a surf-session and big meals. My friends and I love chilling here after surfing session and eat BIG time haha(:

Pedro's Tacos... What an incredible place. First off, bean, cheese and potato burritos are now my new favorite food in the world. Not to mention each one is enough to fulfill anyone's hunger, and they are only ~$2!! As for all the other food they serve, it's all quite tasty. I have never had a fish taco, the one item it seems everyone's reviews are based on, but if you like any other type of Mexican food, and your in San Clemente, Pedro's Tacos is a must-stop-by resturant! An easy 5 Stars from me!

The taco was just ok and are you kidding me with the PACKETS of hot sauce. Taco shops need salsa. Disappointing.

  • Brian S.

Had for the first time after a morning surf session. Had heard many raving about so hit it up. Had a couple of carne asada tacos and a potato taco. Portions are large and the potato taco was good with the exception of having too much Crete fresh or mayo sauce. Why cover up the taste of the potatoes with tons of sauce? Based on some of the reviews here on yelp, they may be used to it because they use it to cover the flavor of the infirmities fish in the tacos. Carne asada tacos were not very tasty. I grew up eating Mexican food and these were among the least tasty that I have had. A lot of meat in the tacos, but not very tasty. Also noticed a weirdos of diced carne asada steak and ground beef. Ground beef mixed in is a first for me. Maybe it is cheaper and they can thus throw more meat in. Not too familiar with the other establishments in the area, but I find it hard to believe that there are better taco shops in the area.

this would probably be my last resort in buying mexican food , 1.they sometimes give me the wrong order 2.bean and cheese burrito has little to almost nothing of cheese,(ur lucky if u find cheese in ur burritos 3.they charge for mild\hot sauce!!! Are u f***ken kidding me!?! 4.their burritos are NOT FRESH MADE, they are premade that have been laying around since the morning.I've had a couple of my friends that worked at the one by wells fargo and the one at southside san clemente. I've been living here all my life and got to admit this place suxx, I Highly recommend u guys try out la tiendita by victoria street across bank of america, better food, better service, dine in,CHEESE ON UR BURRITOS^_^

Horrible Horrible Horrible. Maybe this place is ok for anyone who has NEVER had San Diego Mexican food because it is not even close. And we all know SD Mexican is the best. 1) They do not serve chips!?! What a joke, that's like a sushi place saying they don't serve rice. 2) They don't have hot sauce, they have taco sauce packets. The same type as you find at taco bell 3) No California Burritos, this should be a clue that this place is no good. 4) The chicken quesadilla was awful. They put way too many huge peppers and barely any chicken or cheese. I recommend staying away. Go up to Laguna to Albatros for a hole in the wall type place or Fred's for sit down. Or head down to San Diego.

I had the fish tacos and they seemed to have been made with frozen fish sticks. They were ok but it would have been nice if the fish was fresh right near the ocean and all. Other than that the food was ok. My wife and I went there because the line was out of the parking lot so we assumed it was good. I've had a lot better. I might go back if I am in the area and try something else. My wife had the rolled tacos and she said they were pretty good.

Was sooo excited and yet sooo disappointed. I don't understand why this place has so many stars.. We live in a place with Mexican food 100 times better than this. It's cheap, yes, but I've had MUCH better cheap Mexican food.. The Carne Asada had no taste, the fish was no doubt frozen fish sticks and I don't think I had much cheese in my bean and cheese burrito.. no bueno.

Having lived in San Clemente for ten years, Pedro's was an institution for us. We would scrounge together how ever much money we could and go to Pedro's and always leave full and happy. Now whenever I'm with an hour of San Clemente, I'll make the pilgrimage (yes pilgrimage, this is a holy place of food) to Pedro's for a bean and cheese burrito, quesadilla, tons of their Heinz taco sauce, and a side of guacamole. Grab your food and quickly drive down to the beach (either the pier bowl or calafia) and *poof* you're transported to a little slice of heaven. When I think of a taco shop, I always think of Pedro's.

Absolutely HORRIBLE! The food is crap, the service was crap, the menu is a complete joke. Don't ever go to a place that claims they have authentic mexican food and have their hot sauce in packets.

I don't know if the fish tacos are that great. I have no concrete, believable evidence that their bean and cheese burritos are edible. I have zero credible insight as to whether you should try their rolled tacos. What I do know, and can bet my taste buds on, is that the Pedro's breakfast burrito, and specifically the Steak, Egg and Potato (SEP on the wrapper, baby!) breakfast burrito, is still one of the best breakfast burritos of all time, hands down. The crispy hash browns, tasty steak, and fluffy eggs combined with mouthwatering jalapeno hot sauce are one of the world's simplest, yet amazing delights. There are bigger (barely, these puppies are filling), perhaps more flavorful burritos out there, but truly none better. Yes, despite the fact that I cannot vouch for the entire menu, Pedro's breakfast burritos are good enough to warrant a 5 star rating in and of themselves. I admit I may have some bias since this is a sentimental favorite from my quasi-hometown, but if a place can rope you in and keep you in for this long, they must be doing something right.

I've lived in a few different cities in California and I still have not found a better fish taco than here at Pedros. I wish San Diego had a Pedros!

I was first introduced to Pedro's Tacos by my surfer husband. Nearly every Saturday morning he stops there on his way home from the beach, for a breakfast burrito. He raved about it enough, that one day I packed the kiddos up in the car, to see what all the fuss was about... Pedro's is your basic taco stand... you can drive or walk up, & very minimal seating is offered. Although for a taco stand they've got a pretty extensive menu. Burritos (they even have a fried chicken burrito?!), tacos, combo plates, & breakfast burritos. They even have an "Atkins Diet Cup" featuring steak, salsa & guac. My personal favorites on the menu? Their famous fish tacos (or as my hubby calls them, Van de Kamp fish tacos), the cheese quesadilla & a horchata. yum!

Good food all around for adults and kids. Amazing no, awesome for after a day at beach and very inexpensive? Yes. This place rules.

Well when I was dirty, scraggly tweaker kid and lived in Fontana 18 years or so ago I thought his place was awesome. Now after enjoying plenty of real mexican food and acquiring a bit of "culture" ...I'm thinking, not so much. The fish tacos are basically a Mrs. Gortons Breaded Fish Filet folded into a tortilla with some cabbage. The Carne Asada is some kind of penitentiary-grade meat mixed with not much spice. The only thing I'll get there is the bean and cheese burrito add potato, or the potato taco. Not because it is spectacular but because it is safe and fairly priced. I understand the time honored tradition of surfing at San O or Trestles and then coming here to try and eat a burrito between random excretions of salt water from your sinuses. But for me personally, the quality has to match the legend or it's all just an illusion.

This a great place for guilty pleasures. Expect bad for you food that taste great. I love their chicken quesadilla.Great burritos!

The food is as crappy as the look of the building that houses this mess. Considering I'm an enormous overeater, and I am one of those people who has to try everything on the menu, I overordered at this place. The burrito wasn't that great. The fish taco was nothing to write home about (think rubios.. meh) What was more disconcerting was that when I peeked my head into this pup n' taco shack, I noticed what looked to be a lot of premade burritos sitting there for drive thru customers. If you have to eat Mexican and you're in San Clemente, go to La Siesta. It's right down the street and it serves beer.

We had read about Pedro's and heard about it from a guy at a surf shop in our hometown. So we stopped by to pick up dinner for the four of us. We all ended up ordering fish tacos and they were really, really good. The drive through was packed so we just walked up. There are tables outside. We would definitely go back.

Best Fast Food Taco/Mexican Shop I've ever been to. I come hear every Sunday for lunch on my way to coach football lessons. I get the 'combo burrito' and it's HUGE! Stuffs me up and I eat a lot haha. Very tasty, loaded with meat, and plenty of stuff packed in- beans, guacamole, sauce, etc. Awesome taste. I recommend not getting the salsa because they give you these Heinz packets which are Horrible tasting. Other than that, this place is dynamite. A really cool looking place, right on the main drag of San Clemente. You'll see a bunch of kids on their way before/after surfing and a bunch of people coming for a quick lunch on their break. The service is lightning fast and even when the drive-thru window has 5 or more cars in it, I always seem to get right in and out. You can do walk-up service or drive-thru. Highly recommended= awesome food, Cheap Prices!

This is a regular stop for us coming back from the beach/surfing in San O. The carne asada burrito never disappoints - very tasty. We've had other stuff on the menu too, and it is pretty good - beef taquitos, cheese quesadillas, etc. Love that they serve horchata drink. All in all, good value, and a great stop when driving along 5 freeway.

Yum yum yum! Such deliciousness! Baja Mexican food at its best. No frills, just a little shack that's sells tasty tacos and burritos. I always get the potato taco, which is awesome, and the shrimp taco (so good!). Also delicious is the carne asada burrito, among other things. YUM!! Nothing fancy, just simple street-style tacos that taste amazing!

Have lived in San Clemente for six years and tried Pedro's for the first time tonight after seeing the Orange Coast magazine article. Fish tacos were not very good, fish barely cooked, looked like fish portions you might buy at Smart & Final. Our food was barely warm, quesadilla seemed like it had been pre-prepared and then nuked in microwave....will never go back, don't know what the fuss is, fish tacos are better at Del Taco...truly! Server at window seemed bothered that there were customers.

Surprised to see mixed reviews, I mean it is PEDROS for heavens sake! But then, I read further. Those who dissed it, were "tourists" who were not properly prepared for their dining experience. 1. You have to order the right thing. There is an order to ordering at pedros. If you have never been there before, first start off with a basic burrito, bean and cheese. If you want to do it up, add some potato and even guac. Then you can move on to the rolled tacos, and so forth. 2. The food is amazing, but without the experience, it might just be delicious. Nothing like stopping at pedros after a long surf sesh with a handful of change (the days when they only took cash), stil in a wet bathing suit with a towel wrapped around your legs, and digging in to a delicious bean cheese and potato. After growing up doing so, it is nostalgic to me, even though I still live down the street. Oh and yes, we eat there about 4 times a month. It does not get old.

A San Clemente Institution...if you're not down with Pedro's then maybe you're just rolling through. The Fish Tacos might have you thinking of San Pedro and with 5 bucks in the your pocket, you can walk up starving and walk away happy... - My personal favorite, a bean and cheese burrito with potatoes, great way to fill up if you starving and scrounging for change in the car, post surf session. The Quesadilla for 99 cents is also a good way to go.

The service was mediocre (only involved non verbal communication in the form of grunts) BUT the tacos were delish! We tried the carne asada, shrimp, fish and potato!

You cant find much for under $2 these days. The bean and cheese burrito hits the spot without breaking the bank. The real reason I come here is for the mild sauce- it's delicious.

I live about 3 blocks from Pedro's so I have had my share of tacos there. If you go there ... get the shrimp tacos... pretty darn good. Everything else here is just meh.

Love Pedros! everytime we're in the area and it's dinner time, we'll stop in. Discovered their new California Burrito yesterday, amazing! give it a try you won't be sorry !

I have always loved Pedro's - the ultimate post-surf refueling station. The carne asada burrito is so simple and so good that after I moved to NorCal I used to buy extra and freeze them. Not sure if I'd get through airport security anymore trying to bring home a bunch of foil-wrapped cylinders. If you're really hungry add on fish tacos, rolled tacos and a coke. Even when surfing in Santa Cruz I still get a Pavlovian craving for Pedros....

  • Dustin S.

This is some bomb mexican food. The only thing that would have made it better would have been tofu scramble as an option for the breakfast burritos, but that's just a vegetarian complaint. The food was very very good. I am going back again tomorrow for breakfast to try the potato tacos which my wife says were legit. I had the bean and cheese and added potato to it. I could have had a little more potato, but it was still very good. Seating is better at this one but it's all outside.

Pedro: Do you think people will vote for me? Anthony S.: Heck yes! I'd vote for you. Pedro: Like what are my skills? Anthony S.: Well, you make sweet tacos. And you're really good at burritos too. Plus, you're like the only guy in town who makes potacos. Anthony S.: If you need to use any one of my skills. I can do whatever you want. Pedro: If I win, you can be my secretary, or something. Anthony S.: Sweet! Plus I can be your bodyguard too, or like secret service captain or whatever. Pedro's Tacos is a great little taco stand on El Camino Real in San Clemente. I was so hungry on my way up to Venice Beach on Sunday that I was beginning to digest my own stomach and needed some food, STAT. Astrid and I found Pedro's by accident while searching for food on the navigation system in the car. We didn't want fast food, heavy brunch or seafood...so tacos seemed like the perfect option. They have a very limited menu that consists of tacos, burritos and quesadillas. That's it. We kept it simple, two fish tacos, one shrimp taco, one order of three rolled tacos and a carne asada taco. The fish tacos were pretty decent, cabbage, fried fish and salsa. They were good but they were slathered in too much dressing. Same for the shrimp taco. The rolled beef tacos were crispy, crunchy perfection coated in fresh guacamole. The carne asada was really tasty. A good carne asada should stand on it's own and Pedro's is near-perfect. The meat was well-marinated, tender and it had incredible flavor. It was definitely the winner of the taco battle hands down. Instead of fresh salsa you get pre-packaged packets of hot sauce. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. If you're ever driving on the 5 and get hungry, Pedro's fits the bill quite nicely. So, if you vote for Pedro's will all of your wildest dreams will come true? Maybe not, but you won't try to take a bite out of your dashboard again. VOTE FOR PEDRO'S.

I really love this place. However, upon further review, and a few more visits, I need to downgrade to 4 stars instead of 5. Ask for chips? Forget it. How about some salsa for the burrito? Heinz taco sauce in a packet??? Are you kidding me?? Hey, 4 stars for a taco stand is still pretty good. But 5?? As good as it gets?? Nope.

  • Jory S.

I got the chicken fajita burrito. It was nasty! The chewy, rubbery, dark meat chicken was way overcooked. There were barely any peppers in the burrito. They also charge you 25 cents for their tap water. I wouldn't go back. Maybe the carne asada is better?

Bangin' Bangin' Bangin' My girl Sara took me here on our last journey to San C and all I can say is bangin'. Pedros is a lil hole in the wall Mexican place that is absolutely delicious. Great burritos and tacos - my boyfriend and I shared a carne asada burrito and a few tacos and we left happy and full. This is a must do in San C! *Also, don't forget to pick up a bumper sticker and represent!

This is my favorite fast food mexican place ever!! ALL San Clemente kids love pedros!:) I prefer the smaller pedros down the street across from Wells Fargo. They're A LOT faster. Oh yeah & don't go to San Juan Capistrano pedros because you HAVE TO park AND they raised the price AND they have the wrong hot sauce. San Juan is a hot mess! :\ WHEN ORDERING: First of all ALWAYS get the bean&cheese burrito!! its freaking delicious;) I've eaten here since I was a kid when the bean&cheese used to be huge & .69 cents. I think its .99 cents now & not so big. But whatever order 10 of those mothereffers if needed! Also... the jamaicas are good but need to be consumed fast or else it will eat a hole through the cup lol seriously it will!! Avoid the greasy quesadillas! & always ask for a LOT of hot sauce cuz if you don't they'll be really stingy. the end!! :D

Oh I love me some Pedro's. I'm going through a new resurgence there after frequenting these fine establishments most of my life. They are known for you guessed it, their tacos, but I'm a burrito man and they surely don't disappoint. This place is so good that I even stop there when I make a trip down to San Diego. Great cheap eats. My faves: Carne Asada Burrito Fried Chicken Burrito Chicken Quesadilla Bean, Cheese and Potato Burrito Hot sauces. Grub

I stopped for gas off the highway and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Based on the positive yelp reviews, this sounded to be the place to go. Wow, what a complete disappointment! My fish taco was HORRIBLE. I can't believe someone claimed it to be the best in all of southern california. It was a fried fish stick smothered in mayo. I seriously couldn't stomach it. The carne asada taco was slightly better, but still the worst carne asada taco I've ever had. It wasn't even true carne asada... it was bland grilled ground beef. I admit that I used to live in the Mission in SF and have eaten real mexican food in Mexico and San Diego, so I've had the good stuff. But this was seriously below Taco Bell quality. Granted, it is a drive-thru or take-out only joint, but at least they could put in a little effort. Not even salsa or real hot sauce? I'm really not a hater and I don't like posting such bad reviews. This is my vomit talking.

me and the bf were driving back from visiting family and decided to hit up this place for some fish tacos. a friend of ours, speak highly of this one - so we decided to give it a shot. as i was handed our order of fish and shrimp tacos, i was eager to dig in for some fish goodness. when i opened the foil wrapper, i was a little disappointed seeing a small piece of fish sitting on top of the veggies and cream.. which btw i think is funny, cause it's usually veggies on top. fish taco was ok. nothing to write home about. it's actually a little dry and flavorless. shrimp taco was the same. but it made us full, so can't really complain much. the only redeeming part of this review was that they're open till 11pm. and if you're craving for some mexican food, then this might be the only place that'll satisfy that craving.

I was excited about the tacos, but they were only ok. GIANT though. The real star is the beans! Delish, and you get so much for 1.25. Delish.

Been coming here for years. Normally do the drive-through and the wait is always worth it. I get the carne asada burrito usually, but over the years I think I've tried 90% of the menu and can honestly say that nothing has disappointed me. Such an awesome local gem.

Im from northern california and we dont have fish tacos up here like the ones at pedros. Had them for the first time this past weekend trip down in socal.... pretty sure i came back 3 times while there. They were delish! The sauce was so yummy and the portions were really good as well. However their rice and beans were not that good... tasted kinda old but none the less tacos were amazing.

I love a place that has a potato taco. The fish tacos were decent (still waiting to have something as good as what I had at the Golden Lion in Flager Beach). The tortillas were top notch and the salsa and dressing were yummy. We stumbled across this place after a harrowing journey down the 5 during 4th of July weekend (why-oh-why did we choose this weekend to go to San Diego). We turned around and stopped in San Clemente for a bite to eat. Definitely the perfect road food stop (except maybe the part where they have no bathrooms).

This past Saturday, after a day on the Dana Pt. Harbor, we were hungry so my son recommended this place. He said that Lupe's Mistake was the bomb. It's a burrito that has shrimp, guacamole, rice, cheese, etc. It was terrific. Large but not too large of a burrito. I would definitely come back to this small place. Pedro's has been there for 25 years.

    (5)
  • Jake S.

This food is actually pretty good. It's definitely not authentic Mexican food by any means, but if you want some really good and filling Americanized Mexican food, eat here. The burritos are huge, the fish tacos are bomb...pretty much everything on the menu is pretty good except for the terrible salsa they make.

    (3)
  • A J.

Really, fave here is the fried chicken taco. Damn that's good. And huge pieces of chicken. Gracias, Pedro, gracias.

  • Robert G.

So good, so cheap & so convenient! Just a few short blocks from my cottage, Pedro's is like mans best friend: Warm, Friendly & Dependable. Great to have on a cold winter's night, snuggled up by the fireplace watching old movies or on a warm summer day at the beach watching the waves & contemplating your next caper... The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they don't sell tortia chips there & sometimes the Horchata is watered down ;-( . Recommended: Taco's any kind but the Carne Asada are particularly good. Avoid: The regular hot sauce (it's too mild) ask for the Hot Hot sauce instead. Enjoy - your worth it!

Awesome fast mexican food! Carne asada tacos are great. Fish taco is good but it's just a big fish stick in the taco. You will not leave hungry!

The ONLY place to go after a long day surfing. The bean, cheese, and potato burrito is truly perfect. The only downside is they often make mistakes, so triple check your order before driving away. Love this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
